Ikaroc[edit]

They aren't really bones, to say... there's some, something like meat under there. I think.

Physical Description[edit]

The ikaroc are beings that both wear and grow skeletal growths. Their actual bodies are made of a dark, velvet like material which holds a skeleton together. Their head is crowned with a skull, usually discarded by another creature, and from their dark eyes are glowing irises. Their size is about the size of a human, and males and females are radically dimorphic. Males have muscular bodies that can reach about six feet and above on average, while females average around five and a half feet usually. They all have skeletal remains that are actually growing out of their bodies, usually being a sharp-tipped tail, ribs, and boney armor for their legs. Due to the extrusions on their body, ikaroc tend not to wear anything, and they have little to no sense of nudity, save when they do not have bones on, which they consider perhaps the equivalent of clothes and even a show of status. High ranking ikarocs wear more ornate bones.

History[edit]

Ikaroc are believed to be beings that originated from the realm of Shadowfell, with the death of a shadow dragon. However, while certainly being made of necrotic energies, their being is not inherently negative or vile like that of undead. Supposedly, their base form of darkness is only truly formed once they diffuse into the Material Realm via tears between the parallel planes. Then they groom themselves with bones to become a full-fledged ikaroc. Over time, they have been going back and forth between the two planes, though most end up staying in the Material Realm, being attracted to beings of positive energy.

Society[edit]

Most of their communities in Shadowfell are confined to dark caves and such, away from the cities that are built like Chaulssin. In the Material Realm, most end up in gatherings near places where death and life meet, like a local town cemetery or battlefield near a city. At first, this resulted in a lot of misunderstandings and people mistook them to be undead monsters. Ikaroc are still regarded with discomfort due to their appearance, but they are usually too socially inept to notice or care. Their small groups are called bunches, and they commonly convene on nights to dance and feast on the bones of the departed. Often, this sort of desecration of the dead has not helped their reputation, though some scholars believe them to be some sort of natural bone-eater to deter formation of skeletons. In their groups, there are usually a handful of high-ranking elites that are crowned with the most ornate of bones that lead the bunch.

Ikaroc Names[edit]

Ikaroc names are very soft on the "s" sounds, almost like a yuan-ti's hiss. They usually end with a harder consonant and are meant to mimic an ethereal pass of shadow. There is another naming scheme popular among ikaroc which is the mimicking of the clatter of bones. Ikaroc get to choose their own names upon become fully formed.

Male: Sshrk, Likakak, Bagrassk, Ossit

Female: Jisshap, Chaka, Thikaki, Urakuka
