Human-Thri[edit]

By what means of depravity you came about is better left ... unspoken.

Physical Description[edit]

Human-thri are humanoid man-mantis hybrids. They have flesh-toned skin over a thin chitinous carapace, and exposed joints like an arthropod. Their face is distinctly insect-like, but they also lack mandibles. Instead of four arms, they have two. Some are privy to a second pair, but these are often shrunken and far from usable compared to a normal thri-keen's. Their bodies are more insectoid, with an enlarged abdomen. While their limbs are arranged in a humanoid manner, parts of them seem twisted out of place, like their hands and feet. Like thri-keen, they have compound eyes.

History[edit]

The strange race of human-thri came prior the great departure of magic from Athas. At the time, arcane rituals were prepped and studied to be used on numerous beings in preparation to seize resources. Ignorant to their self-destruction, the experiments ranged from frivolous drainage of the magic supply and natural world to full-on inhumane torture and grotesque breeding for desired properties. The human-thri are a result of the latter. Their conception came out of initial admiration of the resourceful thri-keen people. This became an obsession that led to the kidnapping of several members of that community, forcing them to be baby factories to produce material for projects. By utilizing the egg of the thri-keen, these experiments sought to imbue an unborn human with their dexterity and hardiness. The result was a large spawn of strange creatures we now call the human-thri. While these experiments were discontinued with the loss of magic, the human-thri remain in small numbers.

Society[edit]

While their numbers are small, human-thri are fully capable of reproduction with their own. Their communities are often hidden, sequestered away in isolated wastelands to avoid running into any unsavory beings who wish them death. They are often seen as scavengers at best and outright abominations at worse. The thri-keen community heavily abhor them for their bastard and experimental lineage at the cost of their own. Humans see them as aligned more with monster-kind. Human-thri, therefore, live without much recourse from others and grow up scrappy and self-reliant. Their communities commonly scour the deserts and dried wastes for food and material to return to their tribe. Like humans, they are heavily co-dependent on their community for survival, and like thri-keen, they value the strongest and most independent as their leader.

Human-Thri Traits[edit]

Human mantis hybrids

Alignment. They tend towards no particular alignment, but if they do, it would be more chaotic than anything else.
Size. A full-grown human-thri stands between 5 to 6 and a half feet tall.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Experimental Venoms. Thri-keen have a little known venom which you have been exposed to, as well as other things as a result of the experiments. You are resistant to poison damage.
Natural Armor. You have a chitinous armor under your skin. When you aren’t wearing armor, your AC is 12 + your Dexterity Modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with lower AC. A shield’s benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.
Compound Eyes. Your developed eyes are very perceptive. You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks using your sight.
Rugged Lifestyle. As an outcast, you know what it takes to survive. You are proficient in the Survival skill.
Torpor. Thri-kreen are known to enter a state of decreased physiological activity to prolong their survival. You only require 1 gallon of water each week, you do not require sleep and don't suffer exhaustion from lack of rest. When you take a long rest, you must spend at least six hours of it in an inactive, motionless state, rather than sleeping. In this state, you appear inert, but it doesn’t render you unconscious, and you can see and hear as normal.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, Thri-Kreen and one other language of your choice.
