Honedge-Possessed[edit]

The origin of this Pokémon is a great ghost tale: it's said that Honedge are ancient swords possessed by a departed spirit. Should people try to grab the sword, Honedge will attack them or wrap its sash around their arm, slowly draining the life energy from their body. Moral of the story: be careful around ancient swords.

Physical Description[edit]

From Pokemon Adventures, Shauna possessed by honedge

Honedge are pokemon that appear as ancient, ornate swords with a long, blue sash tied to their handle. This pokemon is known to drain the lives of those foolish enough to try and wield it. Unknown to many, it is also able to possess people. Honedge appears as a sword-and-scabbard set. The scabbard is bronze and decorated with a triquetra. The sword portion of the pokemon has a blue eye on the hilt and a silvery blade. The blue sash tied to its pommel is prehensile and functions like honedge's one arm. This sash is very long and usually helps the pokemon hold its own sheath or even wrap around the body of the possessed.

Any humanoid is able to be a host for honedge. However, it is usually found and used by humans as opposed to any other race. This is likely because honedge is found only in human territories, having been from ancient human kingdoms. Additionally, other pokemon tend to stay away from it.

History[edit]

Honedge are ghost pokemon born when someone is killed by the sword, thus trapping their soul in it and animating it. Unlike a normal flying sword, honedge can drain life force, like many ghost-types do. During times of great war, honedge sprouted up in the dozens from people who fell in battle. These swords littering the field were referred to as "cursed" because of the potential of many being a honedge masquerading as an innocent blade. There is thus a superstition against picking up random, worn swords. Those possessed by honedge have shortened lifespans. Throughout history, there have been stories about these people foolish enough to pick up old swords.

Personality[edit]

Those having their life drained by a honedge are known to act differently, thus attributing to them being possessed. Honedge are often controlled by an aegislash. Thus, those possessed by honedge will obey the aegislash master. Otherwise, they just usually seem overly obsessed with their sword and cutting random things, be they a tree or a person. Any original personality of the possessed is always more or less warped this way. Honedge themselves are known to be rather simple-minded, though some can be more forceful in personality. In the case of the latter, they may simply project their own voice through the possessed, thus truly possessing their body beyond just warping their personality into a crazed sword-user.

Society[edit]

There isn't really much of a society for sword-possessed people. More likely, honedge-possessed will try to blend in and act like they still belong wherever they came from. However, this can be hard when honedge doesn't know anything about the person they're sucking dry. It can be quite hilarious when two honedge-possessed meet and realize they both are just puppets. Honedge-possessed share a collective love for cutting things, so they can get violent pretty quick and eventually driven out as fast. They are also known for causing trouble because their solution to anything is to cut it. In Lumiose, there was the case of a honedge-possessed girl that would not stop cutting the city trees, so she was promptly dispossessed of her honedge before she could start cutting people.

Honedge-Possessed Names[edit]

Those possessed by honedge tend to be very distant from their past identities. They can still be recognized by others who knew them. However, they may not respond even if addressed so. Honedge themselves can have names though, and they may respond to them.

Honedge-Possessed Traits[edit]

People unfortunately possessed by a ghost sword pokemon
Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 2 and your Strength score increases by 1.
Age. Honedge-possessed have decreased lifespans. Humans will usually not live much longer than 60 years old with the sword draining their life force. These swords will be found near their corpses, waiting for a new victim. Honedge themselves are immortal.
Alignment. While the very idea of living like a leech off someone certainly sounds evil, honedge are more neutral and self-interested than anything else. This imprints onto their possessed holders, who just develop the wanton obsession with cutting stuff rather than good or evil. You can say they might be a bit chaotic.
Size. Because honedge-possessed are usually humans, your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet, same as a human.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Ghost Sense. Because honedge are spirits themselves and feed off life force, they have some ability to sense the life of others. You are aware when a humanoid with a soul comes within 20 feet of you.
Parasitic Construct. Honedge-possessed are a complicated creature, bearing two entities in one. Honedge themselves are constructs as swords, not humanoid. As such, spells like cure wounds don't affect the sword, and the honedge part of you is immune to spells like crown of madness or dominate person because they specifically target humanoids. The sword is immune to poison damage, being poisoned, and diseases. Honedge do not need to eat, drink, or breathe, though they may do so if they wish. Rather than sleeping, you enter an inactive state for 6 hours each day. You do not dream in this state; you are fully aware of your surroundings and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal. If the honedge-possessed dies, the honedge is dispossessed of its body and becomes a creature until it can find another body to latch onto.
Host of Flesh. Honedge-possessed are a complicated creature, bearing two entities in one. While the honedge themselves are constructs, the body they possessed is not and will often be subject to all the usual effects that target humanoids. They also still need to eat, drink, and sleep, though the honedge part of them does not. Additionally, because their life force is being drained, honedge-possessed age twice as fast and have disadvantage on checks and saving throws against exhaustion.
Sword Arm. You permanently have a sword in hand, that being honedge. You cannot be disarmed of honedge unless you are killed. It's like a part of you. This counts as a natural weapon, and the attacks you make with honedge can be considered both weapon and unarmed strikes. If you hit with honedge, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d8 + your Strength modifier.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write whatever language the host knows.

When creating a honedge-possessed character, you can use the following table of traits, ideals, bonds and flaws to help flesh out your character. Use these tables in addition to or in place of your background's characteristics.

Possessed people in this case don't have personalities, silly.
