Heroic Leveling[edit]

Hate having to choose between horizontal and vertical power progression when leveling up? Use Heroic Leveling instead.

When you gain an ability score improvement, you gain 3 points to spend instead of two. You may not add more than 2 points to a single ability score, and the third point must be added to an ability score you don't have saving throw proficiency in, unless you have proficiency in all saving throws tied to an ability score upon which you can place it anywhere.

If you decide to take a feat, you still have 1 point to spend for the ability score increase which can be put anywhere.

As usual, you can't increase an ability score past 20. However, if you take a feat that would otherwise increase one of your ability scores past 20, you can choose a different ability score to increase instead. This abides by the saving throw restriction

This type of leveling allows characters to demonstrate growth in ways that don't encourage a min-maxing playstyle, at the cost of having a slightly higher-power game.
