A Hariyama helping a Makuhita with its training Source

Hariyama are bulky creatures with narrow eyes and rounded ears. On their heads are a short, triangular crest. Dark blue hair grows across the tops of their eyes, around the head crest, and extends down their back to form a long ponytail. The upper half of their body is cream-colored, while the lower half is dark blue. Yellow extensions encircle their waist, resembling a skirt. There is a small, orange half-circle marking in the center of their torso just above the skirt. Hariyama has large hands with three fingers and small, two-toed feet. Both their hands and feet are orange.

In extremely rare cases, some specimens are known to have dark purple hair, dark peach colored "skirt" and light purple hands and feet.

History[edit]

Hariyama and their young, known as Makuhita, were first discovered in the caves and mountains of the Hoenn region but are known to inhabit other regions. Makuhita train rigorously every day, following a daily routine of training together first thing in the morning, eating, taking an afternoon nap, then training more afterwards. When knocked down, it gets right back up and continues attacking its foe no matter how many times it gets knocked down. Sometimes they will slam into trees as part of their training, and snapped trees can typically found near it's nest. Alolan Makuhita will behave similarly and have been known to sometimes Exeggutor only to be flung away as a result.

After it has stored enough energy from all the training it has done, Makuhita will eventually evolve into a Hariyama. Despite appearing fat, they actually are loaded with muscle and love put these muscles on display by challenging others to tests of strength without hesitation, especially big-bodied opponents. Before combat, they stomp on the ground to build power. In fact, such is the power of their attacks that telephone poles are left snapped, heavy trucks can be sent flying, and even trains have been stopped by their mighty arm thrusts. not all Hariyama are large and muscular, as some are smaller and move nimbly while using their moves skillfully. As Hariyama grow older, they tend to oversee the training of Makuhita ensuring the next generation grows just as strong if not stronger than it has.

Society[edit]

Haiyama and Makuhita train vigorously together, so they typically have very a very tight knit society. Those who live among human civilization tend to find work as personal trainers, with some even been known to train professional athletes. Interestingly enough, although Makuhita were not originally from Alola, they have gained some considerable fame there.

Hariyama Names[edit]

Most Hariyama are male and tend to lean mostly towards Common names, though some have been known to take Goliath or even Orcish names depending on region.
