Fey Prairie Dog[edit]

You are more intelligent than your lesser cousins, the simple prairie dogs. You can think on a level they simply are not capable of, and as such you have become more civilized.

Physical Description[edit]

A fey prairie dog is a humanoid version of classic prairie dogs, retaining fur, the rodent teeth, claws, tail and such. All fey prairie dogs also retain their "heavy" appearance, always being very wide, stumpy or plump-looking. There are also a few subraces. The plains prairie dog is tan with two black stripes going down its back, and is the size of a normal prairie dog. A mountain prairie dog is the size of a small child, from 2 to 3 feet tall, and is a deeper brown with one single light tan stripe down its back. An urban prairie dog is human sized, a solid tan color.

History[edit]

Nobody knows where the first fey prairie dogs came from, but it seems they have been around for a long time as they have developed their own civilizations as well as intermingled into others. Magizoologists speculate that regular prairie dogs attained a higher sentience from a flux ing the Weave maybe, thus changing their intelligence and heightening it. They remained relatively small but grew smart enough to organize their tunnels and burrows, which are usually haphazardly built and scattered.

People have stumbled upon these weird little civilizations and taken note of these smart mouthed rodents. The fey prairie dog has made a small niche for itself in history for being oddities that popped up to wanderers. They have been recorded to be rather helpful when they aren't busy burrowing and hiding from larger creatures who would want to eat them. It is unclear how big this civilization of theirs is, but given how they have high reproduction and retention rates, they likely have a nation just where we can't see.

Society[edit]

Fey prairie dogs have differing societies depending on subrace, though all mingle with normal society. A solitary fey prairie dog always invites trouble, so they are never alone. They believe strongly in their strength in numbers. They live in a very functional society where everyone is a busybody. Daily chores include tunnel digging, fortification and patrolling. Newborns are cared for collectively in a large nursery by designated nursing fey prairie dogs. There is even a small militia, though military is hardly the forte of their society. They follow a small circle of oligarchs and rely heavily on a general hive mindset to get their chores accomplished.

Fey prairie dogs interactions are numbered based on location. If they venture out, they're generally seen as rather crazy, especially if they don't live near an urban area. Therefore, plains and mountain prairie dogs are more likely to stay in their villages and not go adventuring, while the urban prairie dogs stick more closely to large cities near home.

Fey Prairie Dog Names[edit]

Fey prairie dogs usually speak to each other in their own little chitters and teeth clicks. They are smart enough to know common however. Often, their names thus are very simple, since they don't call each other by these names usually anyway.
