Physical Description[edit]

The traits of a devil's child may vary a lot from one another, though they all have some infernal trait. Many looks similar to tieflings, some appear almost human. Even their size may vary, but most of them are the size of a human. They have marks from birth that brand them for what they are. These are birthmarks of the devil and manifest sometimes as a pattern of moles or even something as ominous as a natural tattoo.

History[edit]

Unlike tieflings, a devil's child is born from a human and a devil of some kind. This is not through the normal writ of pregnancy, but rather through a ritual that creates a strange new life within the surrogate body. There is no sexual activity involved. Usually rejected, cursed, hated when living with their human parent, it may happen among some wicked cultists that these offspring are considered a gift. Some are born from human parents who could not have children naturally and thus made a pact with a devil. A devil's child usually finds it hard to live with others due to their physical traits, so many try to hide their features.

Society[edit]

They lack a society since it is really rare for a devil's child to meet another one of its kind. They grow up in the society of the parent who raises them. It may happen that someone finds an abandoned devil's child and decide to raise him/her. Devil's children live lives that often teeter between criminal and unknown. This creates for volatile personalities and behaviors. Many grow up not knowing love, which can further warp them, as they are capable of the whole human range of morality.

Devil's Child Names[edit]

Like every devil, a devil's child has a common name and a true name that is kept secret. A devil's child can be forced to disclose its true name if charmed. However, it may not be summoned as other devils unless he is in its complete devilish form. Every attack, check, saving throw it makes against someone who uses its real name is made at disadvantage. The name cannot be pronounced by someone who does not speak Infernal (telepathy does not work) and can only be used if in the same place of existence.

Suggested Characteristics[edit]

When creating a devil's child character, you can use the following table of traits, ideals, bonds, and flaws to help flesh out your character. Use these tables in addition to or in place of your background's characteristics.

d8 Personality Trait
1 Since I can’t fit in, I might as well enjoy making humans uncomfortable with the way I act.
2 In times of stress, I curse in the tongues of fiends. This may have unintended consequences.
3 I don’t worry about insults, but if you break a deal with me, the gods themselves couldn’t save you.
4 Flattery is my preferred trick for getting what I want.
5 I don't believe in the gods (even though you've seen one with your own eyes.)
6 I'm a born gambler who can't resist taking a risk for a potential payoff.
7 I lie about almost everything, even when there's no good reason to.
8 I would like to be judged only based on my actions, not my heritage.
d6 Ideal
1 Greed: I grew up in deprivation, so now I never part with a copper piece unnecessarily. (Neutral)
2 Independence. I am a free spirit--no one tells me what to do. (Chaotic)
3 Fairness: I reserve my wrath for when wrongdoing can be conclusively proven, because I know the price of false accusation. (Lawful)
4 Free Thinking. Inquiry and curiosity are the pillars of progress. (Chaotic)
5 Live and Let Live. Meddling in the affairs of others only causes trouble. (Neutral)
6 Might. The strongest are meant to rule. (Evil)
d6 Bond
1 Something important was taken from me, and I aim to steal it back.
2 I owe my survival to another urchin who taught me to live on the streets.
3 I owe my life to the one who took me in when I've been abandoned.
4 I'm going to prove my family and Asmodeus itself that I'm worthy of my devilish half.
5 I’ve been accused of a lot of things, but I actually didn’t do this one, so I must clear my name.
6 The only thing I care about is the talisman my mother gave me..
d6 Flaw
1 I am suspicious of strangers and suspect the worst of them.
2 When I see something valuable, I can't think about anything but how to steal it.
3 If there's a plan, I'll forget it. If I don't forget it, I'll ignore it.
4 You say “overweening ambition” like it’s a bad thing.
5 I have an insatiable desire for carnal pleasures.
6 Call me a freak one more time, and you’ll finally learn who you’re dealing with.
