Damejin[edit]

Imagine being born missing your arms, legs, eyes, even your tongue...

Physical Description[edit]

From the Dororo anime

The damejin are known to appear like normal humanoids, usually that of humans, halflings, gnomes, dwarves, or elves. However, their bodies are stunted from growth and they therefore are always wearing a variety of prosthetic limbs and body parts. The degree to which their body parts are artificial varies, though most damejin are missing all their limbs at the very least. Some of the severe cases do not even have organic eyes anymore. As such, damejin are heavily modified humanoids in the sense of necessity. The sheer loss of their body parts brings into question how they ever survived the initial ordeal. Their name comes from "dame," meaning "what cannot be," and "jin", meaning "person", in the language of Wa. Thus, their name is a testament to the impossibility of their existence.

Origin[edit]

The damejin are people of unfortunate circumstance of the highest degree. They are usually born normal people. However, from a young age, they had their limbs and faculties stolen by nefarious means. A common instance of this is the sacrifice of children. Different demonic or eldritch exchanges can rob a person of all their limbs, eyes, ears, and body, leaving them a virtual shell. Other methods exist, where extreme magic renders one's body utterly broken, and sometimes even their soul. As a result, damejin are left with a husk of a body. The prosthetic parts of the body they have are usually replacements. These prosthetic parts are often equipped with weapons that give damejin some teeth.

Society[edit]

Due to the abominable way they are created, damejin usually have to blend into the society where they can still appear within place. Human damejin, for example, stay with human damejin, and so forth. Their replaced body parts are typically molded to arouse as little suspicion as possible, while still allowing for combat capability. Because of the labor behind their special bodies, damejin usually need sponsors or close relationships with weapons experts to conduct maintenance and procure new parts. Many damjein thus enlist as servants of nobles or work under blacksmiths. There are, however, perfectly normal damejin who do more menial, mundane work. However, the desire to take back what was lost often is a driving force behind damejin to throw themselves into professions that meet with danger. They fervently hope for their next opponent to be the creature that took their body parts.

Half-Born Names[edit]

Damejin have names from that of the people around them. Most damejin are known to come from Wa-an of Kara-Tur. However, damejin will generally take any name from societies that raise them.
