Craag's Crawling Tower (5e Equipment)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Wondrous item (shield), very rare (requires attunement)

A reinforced, 5ft tall tower shield with two slightly smaller shields (4ft) on each side of it. This set of shields is too large to act as a regular shield and is forged onto a 3 foot tall, eight legged base (4 legs across the front, 2 in the middle and 2 at the rear), that has 2 armored sides that are 3 feet tall. The attuned may speak a command word as an action to animate the shield tower for 1 minute. The item has an AC of 18, 75 hp, weighs 290lbs, has 60 feet of movement (reduced by 5 for each creature carried), 40 feet of swimming speed (reduced by 5 for each creature carried), and has the dimensions 8ft tall (at highest point descending to 7ft, then 6ft at the side walls), 4ft long, 4ft wide, and a 1ft deep bed. There are 3 different functions available during activation, & the device behaves in the following ways depending on which mode is invoked.

  • Fortress Craft: As a bonus action, you can have this item can move up to 60 feet to grant a source of cover for an ally. The coverage amount varies depending on the size of the ally. (half cover if 5'1" or taller, 3 quarters cover if 5ft to 4ft, & total cover if under 4ft tall). The user can designate that ally as one to protect and follow until the shield is given a new order or else the shield tower will return to them at the end of their next turn.
  • Transporter: The device can support 12 plus the user's Strength modifier worth of items or up to 2 sitting or 4 standing Medium sized creatures (twice as many for small creatures). The shield tower will carry the load as directed or will simply follow the user if no direction is given. For the duration of activation, the user can use their reaction to move the shield tower away from any non allied creature that moves within 15 feet of it.
  • Combat Steed: As one of the user's attacks, the crawling tower can ram a target using a 1d20 plus the user's Strength modifier to hit. If the attack hits, the target is knocked prone. If the user (or an ally that has designated for it to assist) has the mounted combatant feat, the shield tower meets the requirements of a steed.
