Clabber[edit]

In Plain Sight[edit]

.... a particular breed of sentient Mimics, they possess the shape-shifting, and other, features of mimics. As I have discovered, they are born through the unholy mixture of a dead Mimic, a touch of necromancy, and a still-living humanoid that is within the dead Mimic.
—Necromancer's Journal, Page 83
After little thought, I have decided to call these creatures "Clabbers", after the faint smell of curdled milk they produce.

Ever-Changing[edit]

Clabbers have no set physical appearance and what they usually appear as, when in a state of rest, is a fluidly changing mass of flesh, bone, and facial features, though they can hold a roughly humanoid shape with little, to no, effort. Often Clabber have little trouble adjusting to situations because much like their bodies, their personalities are often in flux, this can make Clabbers unpredictable and often hard to understand or make friends with, as their mood, gender, and mindset are constantly changing.

Though Clabber typically stand no taller than 4 feet tall when in a state of rest, due to the fact that their bodies are ever-changing they will at times be anywhere from 3 feet tall, to 5 feet tall. Their weight usually ranges between 150lbs and 160lbs. Often Clabbers take on whatever tone of skin, eye, and hair color that pleases them at a given time.

Born Yesterday[edit]

Not much is to be said about Clabber society or history as it is often limited to the bond they share/d with their "parent", the being which imbued them with necromantic magic in the first place. Clabber are born into the world with fragmented knowledge about everything, that both the character and the mimic knew; however, they retain none of the memories of either, save a name. Though often Clabbers find themselves shunned or ignored by society due to their grotesque appearance.

Fractured Personality[edit]

While they retain no memories from their humanoid half, Clabbers still posses some of the likes, dislikes, prejudices, and quirks which that half of them had. It is unknown as to why this is, but some suspect that when a Clabber is made, pieces of the humanoid's soul are left behind in it, this would also explain why Clabber seem to jump back and forth between personalities and emotional states.

Clabber Names[edit]

Clabbers often either take on the name of the living character that made up part of them, or they are gifted a new name by the one who made them.

Clabber Traits[edit]

Darkvision. Due to your predatory traits from being half-Mimic, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Shapechanger. As a bonus action you can change small, basic physical characteristics about yourself at will, such a changing your hair color, skin tone, eye color, etc. However, your proportions, and your body and facial structure remain the same. In addition, as an action, you can focus in on your shape-changing abilities and polymorph into any object of your size that you have seen. However, your equipment does not change with you. You revert to your true form if you spend an action to do so or if you are reduced to 0 hit points. You retain all of your normal statistics while in this form. You may use this feature to polymorph once at no penalty each time after finishing a short or long rest, additional uses beyond this incur one level of exhaustion per each additional use.
False Appearance. While you have taken on the form of an inanimate object you are indistinguishable from that object unless you move. You have proficiency in the Stealth skill.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice. This is generally the language of your creator or another language you knew in life.
Subrace. Pick one from the following two traits.

  • Adhesive. Any creature who is grappled by you, and who is no more than one size category larger than yourself, has disadvantage on ability checks made to escape the grapple.
  • Grappler. You have advantage on attack rolls made against any creature you have grappled.
