Chaos-Born (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
|“||I am nothing, yet everything. I am created from the madness of the universe. I am born of chaos.||”|
|—From the adventure journal of Genet Jerto|
The chaos-born are a very mysterious race of people. They are beings created from seemingly nothing. They are not born, they simply are created. They do not die, they simply cease to exist. In reality, they are beings created through cosmic chance, born by the madness of the Weave of magic aligning in just the right way to give life to a new being. Because of the fact that they are made from pure magic, they cannot reproduce naturally. However, the life that hey live is often filled with adventure.
The chaos-born appear in many forms. Since they are created by the Weave, however, most of the time they only appear vaguely humanoid. Oftentimes they have pitch-black skin, four eyes, wings, or multi-colored arms. Some appear very similar to common races, such as humans, elves, and dwarves. However, there is always something that betrays their chaotic heritage. They may not bleed, they may have glowing eyes, they may have one arm or leg that is made of darkness. They appear in many shapes and sizes. They do not identify with a certain gender most of the time.
Because the chaos-born are created out of nowhere, and because of their weird appearance and powerful nature, they don't fit into society well. They often have next to no understanding of how other human beings function, resulting in them having a great lack of empathy for others. They also have next to no understanding of politeness versus rudeness, why clothes matter, and how different devices work. Because of this, even the most human-looking ones of them often are shunned from society. However, these habits can all be changed if someone takes them under their wing. Like all other humanoids, they adapt, so they can fit into society, given time.
The chaos-born, at their roots, are creatures of magic. Because of this, they often feel most at home in magical places. Many of them go to the Elemental Planes, or the Feywild, but they are specifically attracted to the Astral Plane. Because of their natural attraction there, there are some small settlements of chaos-born living there. Like any other humanoid, they love company, so their natural attraction to the Ethereal Plane plus finding others of their race resulted in them making the Ethereal Plane their home. They can live their indefinitely, building their homes from the mist and magic surrounding the plane. However, because of the scarcity of the chaos-born, the vastness of the Ethereal Plane and the fact that they cannot reproduce, these settlements never grow into larger cities.
Chaos-borns often never get names, and therefore adopt one from the society nearby. However, the Chaos-Borns that settle the Ethereal Plane have adopted their own naming scheme. They often give each other names such as Sphitzae, Henxa, Phivnan, Jhothra, Khenvarza, Zhendin, and Whedovha. Chaos-Born do not have genders, do the names are for anyone.
