Gathered Swarm. The caligati has under its control a group of rats. Until the caligati dies, the swarm remains in its space, crawling and scurrying around it. Once on each of its turns, it can cause the swarm to assist it in one of the following ways, immediately after it hits a creature with an attack:

  • The attack's target takes 3 (1d6) piercing damage from the swarm.
  • The attack's target must succeed on a DC 10 Strength saving throw or be moved by the swarm up to 15 feet horizontally in a direction of the caligati's choice.
  • The caligati is moved by the swarm 5 feet horizontally in a direction of its choice.

ACTIONS

Dagger. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 1) piercing damage.

Ratkeepers are easily the most peaceful of the caligati. They simply like hanging out with their little rat friends, and if they get to kill a few people it's even better. They learned how to lead groups of rats from a forest protected by a ranger conclave, which they then burned to the ground. Caligati ratkeepers are a bit odd in how they fight, hopping in and out of melee as they command their rats to protect themselves and their more vulnerable comrades. They're the only caligati actually interested in helping their fellow caligati, likely due to the swarm mentality they adopt when actively directing their rats.
