Bullet Kin[edit]

They're certainly an odd group of buggers, those bullet-things. Every time I talked about them, they thought I meant a bullette, but no! I mean the little bastards that run around shooting things. However, despite their dull little faces, they are exceedingly agile and adept when it comes to combat. The bullet kin are a race of odd, bullet-shaped creatures that have poured out of a mysterious plane called the "Gungeon". Usually dim-witted and slow, these hot-tempered shells are quick to jump into combat, using prowess that even some master monks aspire to.

Physical Description[edit]

The common bullet kin is a cylindrical shape, usually yellow, with a metallic cap in the shape of a hemisphere. Their arms and legs are quite stubby, but they still exhibit extraordinary dexterity. Other variants may exhibit different colors and some subspecies have different heads. In general, the subrace's name gives away their shape, based on the type of bullet or shell. The specific colors may give some indicator as to status within their society, but little research has been done.


Deep within the Gungeon, they are considered "Gundead", not fully related to the undead you may find on other planes of existence. The bullet kin were created when a cataclysmic event known as the Great Bullet occurred within the Gungeon, transforming it into a haven for these people. Over the course of centuries, many adventurers tried to conquer this mighty plane, filled with firearms and treasure galore. So, so many tried, and failed miserably. However, a brave group plunged through its depths, defeating the mighty creatures that filled its halls and rooms, and came upon a portal. They fearlessly plunged into Bullet Hell and broke the devilish curse that locked all of the plane from travel. Portals opened up all across the Gungeon, and as they do, they barreled through them, finding themselves in a strange new land. Now they search for more dungeons to inhabit.


They are simple folk, mostly hunters and gatherers within nomadic tribes. In these bands, they tend to worship their patron god, Kaliber, in bizarre ways that usually involve firing off their primitive guns into the ground, creating intricate sigils in an attempt to summon dark creatures from their home plane to assist them in their endeavors. They tend to be quite paranoid around other races, and in some extreme cases, have flipped tables to protect themselves as they take aim at those they perceive as threats. In the event that they are either forced or willingly enter society, they keep this paranoia, but over time may come to accept those around them.

Bullet-Kin Names[edit]

The customs of naming Bullet-Kin are usually based on bullet and gun puns

Male: Pew Pew Paul, Bullet Bob, Gun Gary, Loading Larry, Firing Fred

Female: Musket Molly, Pistol Patty, Incendiary Ingrid

Bullet-Kin Traits[edit]

Bullet shaped people, hailing from The Gungeon.
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2.
Age. The age of the bullet kin are unknown. It is believed they have lived for hundreds of years, and seem to be biologically immortal.
Alignment. Bullet kin that are part of the Cult of the Gundead are almost always Lawful Neutral, but rogue Bullet-Kin can vary incredibly wildly.
Size. Bullet kin are roughly the size of humans, varying from 5 to 6 feet. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Preferred Armaments. You have proficiency in one ranged weapon of your choice. This can be a firearm.
Metal Body. Creatures within 20 feet of you have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks to hear you.
Gun Nut. When you make Intelligence (History) checks relating to ranged weapons, you are considered proficient in the skill, and add double your Proficiency bonus to the check.
Natural Armor. Your skin is metal, and provides a moderate amount of protection. While you aren’t wearing armor, your Armor Class is equal to 12 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield's benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
Subrace. Bullet kin come in several varieties. Choose a subrace from the options listed below


By far the most common variety of bullet kin, the aptly named bullet subrace is simple, but adaptable.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.
Fast Hands. When using a ranged weapon with the Reload or Loading property, you can instead reload the weapon without using an action or bonus action, or ignore the loading property until the start of your next turn. You can do this twice, and regain all uses after a long rest.
Versatility. You have proficiency in an additional ranged weapon of your choice. This can also be a firearm.


While not genetically a subrace, much older bullet kin fall into this. Their age deepens the colour of their brass skin, and with experience comes skill.

Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Great Shot. As a bonus action, you can give your next ranged attack advantage. You can do this twice, and regain all uses after a long rest.
Old Timer. You are proficient in one Intelligence based skill of your choice.


Genetically taller bullet kin, sporting a more cylindrical form, and coloured brass from below the middle, generally in either red or blue.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1.
Payback. After falling to 0 hitpoints, you can use your reaction to launch buckshot in all directions. Creatures within 15 feet of you must make a Dexterity saving throw, or take 3d6 Piercing damage. This increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. You can do this once, and regain the use after a long rest.


Once living deep within the Oubliette, these bullet kin have become accustomed to filth, as have their bodies, which have now bubbled and warped within it’s moist depths.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score decreases by 2.
Morphed Brass. Your creature type is Monstrosity, alongside Humanoid.
Mutant Spit. You know the poison spray cantrip, and Constitution is your spellcasting modifier for the spell.
Adapted. Your time around hazardous materials have lead to you being affected less by them. You have resistance to acid and poison damage.


Sporting a height similar to the shotgun bullet kin, it instead has a taller, pointer grey cap. Notorious for their preference for long range weapons and impeccable aim.

Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Long Shot. As an action, you can steady your aim. Your next ranged attack does not have disadvantage if you attack at its long range. This also ends at the start of your next turn.
Bingo. When you make a ranged weapon attack and hit, you can cause it to deal extra damage equal to your level. You can do this once, and regain the use after a long rest.


This subrace instead sports a rubber shell, and consistently cheery attitude.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Strength score decreases by 2.
Rubber Body. You have resistance to Electric damage.
Lightened Load. The lack of metal makes you much less heavy. Your walking speed is instead 35 feet.
Rubber Fists. Your unarmed strikes instead deal 0 + your Strength modifier bludgeoning damage.
Charged Dash. As an action, you move 30 feet in a straight line. If you would move through another creatures space while moving, they must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 3d6 Lightning damage. This increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. If a creature fails the saving throw, you stop moving, and if they don’t, you move through their space as if they weren’t there. You can do this once, and regain the use after a long rest.


Instead sporting the appeareance of a massive skull, the Skullet is living description of “Gundead”.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.
Gundead. Your creature type is Undead, as well as Humanoid.
Undead Nature. Your lack of organs is very useful in certain situations. You are immune to diseases. You do not need to eat or breathe, but you can ingest food and drink if you wish. Instead of sleeping, you enter an inactive state for 4 hours each day. You do not dream in this state; you are fully aware of your surroundings and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
