Azer-Forged[edit]

Aye, we may be made of metal, but that don't mean we can't make some fine dragon breath ale. Well, I think it's fine. I can't really tell, mind you, but it sure looks fine.
—Garthran, owner of the Bearded Dragon

Physical Description[edit]

Azer-forged were made to resemble their makers, azers, who resemble dwarves. They are short, stout, and made of a cheap copper alloy, making mass production easier. This material makes the durability of azer-forged skin comparable more to actual dwarves than the bronze azers. Their chest glows faintly where their soul, or "living flame" is. Azer-forged are always designed to look male. Azer-forged clothing varies somewhat based on occupation, though most opt for the same fireproof kilts of their makers, despite the fact that their clothing doesn't need to be fireproof.

History[edit]

Azer-forged are a rather new phenomenon, created when an azer gives only enough of his soul to confer sentience, instead of enough to produce more azers. As such, azer-forged cannot create more azers, yet are still just as sentient as any normal azer. Because of the azers' population decline, some azer officials decided it would be more beneficial to temporarily repopulate their lands with azers who could not reproduce on their own, as an effort to appear strong to the efreet and other nearby races.

Attitudes and Beliefs[edit]

Unfortunately for them, these new azer-forged didn't quite work out the way they had been intended. They became too complacent and carefree for the azers' liking, and have since branched off to populate a different portion of the Fountains of Creation. They know they have little time before their failed race dies out, so most azer-forged just try to make the most of their lives. Some do this by trying to drink every type of alcohol in existence (despite the fact that they don't need sustenance and can't even get drunk from it), while others go adventuring, trying to make the planes a better place. Still others have chosen to build towns and villages throughout the Plane of Fire, hoping to make it more hospitable for others. Some azer-forged never even left their creators, remaining as miners and craftsman with their elemental brethren. Only a couple hundred azer-forged exist, making them one of the rarest races anywhere in the planes.

Azer-Forged Names[edit]

Some azer-forged choose to don similar names as their creators, while others just choose any name they think sounds cool. Your azer-forged will likely either follow the naming conventions of dwarves, or just name himself after something in nature.

Azer-Forged Traits[edit]

Stout constructs traveling throughout the Plane of Fire after they abandoned their makers
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2 and your Strength score increases by 1.
Age. It is unknown how old azer-forged can become before they begin to stop working because of how recently they were made; so far, azer-forged have shown no signs of deterioration due to age. You are immune to magical aging effects.
Alignment. With no structured society, azer-forged can have wildly drastic outlooks on life from one another. Azer-forged who have been influenced for the first few months or years of their life by azer, though, tend to be more lawful.
Size. Azer-forged, like azers, are similar in stature to a dwarf, standing between 4 and 5 feet tall. However, since they are made of metal, azer-forged weigh around 250 pounds instead. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Constructed Resilience. You were created to have remarkable fortitude, represented by the following benefits: You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison damage. You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe. You are immune to disease. You don't need to sleep, and magic can't put you to sleep.
Forged of Fire. You were made to withstand the heat of volcanoes and seas of lava. You are immune to fire damage.
Illumination. Even though your hair isn't on fire, your heart still glows dimly. You shed dim light in a 10-foot radius.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Ignan.

Suggested Characteristics[edit]

When creating an azer-forged character, you can use the following table of traits, ideals, bonds and flaws to help flesh out your character. Use these tables in addition to or in place of your background's characteristics.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I like traveling and seeing everything the world has to offer.
2 I'm really comfortable with strangers and make friends easily.
3 I'm always in the mood to help those in need.
4 I like to ease tense situations with jokes. It's actually quite considerate of me. I guess you could say I'm... warm-hearted? Haha, that was a good one! Get it, cause I've got living fire in my chest? I'm pretty funny, aren't I?
5 I'm not the most trusting of new people.
6 People die. Live with it.

1 Respect. My kin need to show honor to their makers, even if they refuse to serve them. (Lawful)
2 Adventure. I want to get wrapped up in as many crazy adventures as I can. (Neutral)
3 Apathy. I owe nothing to my creator. I never asked to be given this pathetic life or to serve him. That jerk. (Chaos)
4 Vengeance. The azers tried to manipulate life and enslave the creatures they made. They all deserve to die. (Evil)
5 Peace. I wish to restore the bond between the azers and the azer-forged. We were never meant to be different; they're just as much my kin as other azer-forged. (Good)
6 Power. I want to become insanely powerful!!!!!! (Any)
d6 Bond
1 I always stand by my friends, however weird they may be.
2 I owe everything to my creator.
3 No one has truly pure intentions. Everyone has an agenda.

6 My circle of azer-forged is the only reason I'm still alive.
d6 Flaw
1 Yes, I was born yesterday. What's a hammer?
2 I lose my temper easily.
3 I have no real personality; I'm just there.
4 I don't trust anyone. Everyone's trying to take advantage of me.
5 I don't know why anyone does anything. Who cares?
6 I believe everyone is inherently good, even if they don't know it yet. I can't wait to meet all my new friends!
