Amalgam (5e Race)
Amalgam[edit]
You are an Amalgam. A creature ripped to shreds and reformed into a new state, with various news parts of yourselves gifted to you by others. Whether it was willing or unwilling you have been made into an Amalgamation of a variety of different races, having the strength of an Orc, the dexterity of an Owlin, to the constitution of a Dwarf. Different parts of their biology forced into yours creating what can only be a disgrace to nature, inexplicably clear from your never ending torture. That is all you can feel, it’s the only thing you can feel. Pain. Pain. Pain. Pain. And just more pain. Every twitch of a muscle, the turn of your head, fabric against your skin, even just taking a breath, all of it is torturously painful. Most Amalgam’s in their entire life span never feel a moment of peace away from the pain, and that may be your fate as well.
Physical Description[edit]
Amalgams are incredibly varied in appearances due to the fact that they are composed of different parts of different races. Almost no two Amalgams are the same. Most oftenly they appear most like their base race, or the race they were before becoming an Amalgam, but some Amalgams look more like one of the other Races that they are composed of.
History[edit]
For centuries scientists of all fields have been researching how to improve the limits of the body that a person was born with, to stretch past that of evolution and create a perfect creature that has all the positives with non of the negatives from each existing race in the world. No one is even close to accomplishing that goal, but the Amalgams are the closest that anyone has ever gotten, even with their overwhelming imperfection.

Size. Amalgams are usually the average size of their base race but can also tend to be abnormally large or small compared to the rest of their base race.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Creature Type. A crime against nature like you can no longer be called a humanoid, you’re a disgusting result of pride and hubris. For all intents and purposes you either count as a Construct or a Monstrosity(Player’s Choice)
Remains of the Past. Some small part of your past life still remains within you as you keep one Racial Feature of your base race, this racial feature is not subjected to the Amalgam Negative.
Improved Design. The changes in your body have enhanced you greatly in specific fields of interest, when you make a skill check using a skill you have proficiency in you can give yourself advantage on the roll. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your constitution modifier, you regain all expended uses on a long rest.
Additionally when you pick this race choose any one weapon, you automatically gain proficiency in this weapon regardless of your class and when you deal damage using this weapon you may add your proficiency bonus to the damage
Flawed Design. The changes made to your body aren’t always smooth sailing and working as intended. When you roll a natural 1 on a d20 roll you automatically take 1d4+1 Necrotic damage that cannot be reduced by any means. Additionally you also have disadvantage on any rolls that pertain to the ability that was being used on the roll that you critically failed on until you succeed a roll made using that ability
Amalgamation. You have been disassembled and ripped apart, being rebuilt using the biology and anatomy of other races. When you pick this race you can choose up to 5 different racial features from a race separate from your base race and apply that feature to yourself. You can only pick 1 racial feature from each race and you cannot pick any duplicate racial features even if they are from different races. You can only pick racial features that physically alter your body, physiology, anatomy or biology(It’s up to you and your DM to figure out what features constitute to this prerequisite)
Amalgam Negative. Having your body overhauled with parts from other races isn’t always the greatest of times. When you use a racial feature that you received from Amalgamation you have to roll an Amalgamation Check, it is a d20 roll and you add no bonuses to this roll, if you roll a 1 or a 2 when making an Amalgamation Check you take Necrotic damage equal to one roll of your Amalgam Negative die, this damage cannot be reduced by any means. Your Amalgam Negative die is based on how many Racial Features you took using Amalgamation, as shown in the table below
Amalgamation Racial Features | Amalgam Negative Die |
---|---|
1 Feature | 1d4 |
2 Features | 1d6 |
3 Features | 1d8 |
4 Features | 1d10 |
5 Features | 1d12 |
Alternatively when you use one of the racial features received from Amalgamation you can automatically succeed the Amalgamation check, if you automatically succeed 3 different Amalgamation checks the next Amalgamation check you make automatically fails and when you roll your Amalgam Negative die you roll it twice taking the damage of the higher roll
Amalgam Quirks. Not really a feature, just aesthetics and flavor for you to sort and pick from if you want.
Your blood is a deep void black, almost like it’s sucking away the light around it;
You bleed an excessive amount even from just a small scratch;
No light reflects from your eyes making them look like they belong on a corpse;
You never seem to get hungry, thirsty or tired even though you still require to perform all three to function;
You have no detectable pulse or heartbeat and sometimes this makes you forget that you need to breath;
When you move it looks like you have no bones or joints as your limbs bend in unusual and creepy ways;
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
(Specials: Some of the Racial Features that can be chosen using Amalgamation are a bit special and are applied a bit differently as depicted here)
Relentless Endurance. When you use Relentless Endurance and survive on 1 hp, you do not automatically make the Amalgamation check to see if you suffer from the Amalgam Negative. You only make the Amalgamation check once you go above 25% of your max hp
Any Feature that allows you to change your body on command. This special rule applies to any racial feature that allows you to manually change your body(Ex. Shifting, Shapechanger). You can only take 1 of this type of racial features and whenever you use this type of feature to change your body you automatically take 1d4 necrotic damage that cannot be reduced or avoided by any means. When you use a feature like this you still have to make an Amalgamation check
Natural Armor. At the end of combat, if you were target by an attack and weren’t hit at least once, you have to make an Amalgamation check and if you roll a 1, 2, 3, 4 or a 5 you take an Amalgam Negative
