Way of Beams (5e Subclass)
Way of Beams[edit]
Monk Subclass
These monks have harnessed their ki to use in weaponized beams. Turning their punches into strong melee attacks and powerful ranged attacks.
Discovering the Power[edit]
Upon taking this Subclass at Level 3 you are able to spend 1 Ki point to increase the range of unarmed attack by 5ft.
Additionally, when you make an unarmed attack and have at least one Ki point, you may add your Martial Arts die to the damage you deal.
All damage done from beams is Force and considered Magical. Any saving throw uses the formula 10 + Proficiency Bonus + Dexterity Modifier.
Harnessing the Power[edit]
Upon reaching Level 6 in this subclass you gain the ability to harness energy used against you and turn it into your own Ki. When you take 10 or more damage of Acid, Cold, Fire, Force, Lightning, Necrotic, Radiant, or Thunder damage from a single magical source you regain 1 Ki.
Additionally when you make at least two attacks you may use your bonus action to fire a 15ft. long and 5ft. wide beam from your hands. The beam does 3 x your Martial die + your monk level of damage, half on success. You may also spend a Ki point to either double the length of the beam or double the width of the beam.
Mastering the Power[edit]
Upon reaching Level 11 in this subclass you gain mastery over using your beams and find new ways to use them against your enemies. When you use your bonus action beam you may attempt to force an affect on any targets you hit your beams with.
You may do one of the following by expending 3 Ki.
- Push 15ft. back.
- Blind until your next round
- Deafen until your next round
Witnessing the Power[edit]
Upon reaching Level 17 in this subclass your power as grown to devastating effect. You may spend your action to start charging up a massive beam. Every turn afterwards the beam damage increases by one dice and increases by 10 foot in length. You may also spend Ki points to immediately increase the amount of dice or the range, not both at once. The beam starts as 30ft. long 15ft. wide and does 5d10 + Martial Die x Monk Level damage. The beam maxes out at a length of 240ft. and a damage of 20d10. This range and damage can't be increased anymore by holding it longer or expending more Ki.
