Serpent God[edit]

Ain't nothing like a little fear to make a paper man crumble,
—Officer Bowers, IT

Serpentine demons and slithering ancient entities, many of them could be categorized as demon lords, eldritch entities, or other things. The dead obyrith Sertrous, the world serpent Jormungand, Dendar the Night Serpent and the Ananteshesha all fall into this category. No two serpentine patrons are the same; their minds, motivations, and reasons for forming a pact all vary. In the end, they share one thing, a familiar form that that stirs a primal fear in the hearts of mortals.

Forming a Pact with a Serpent God[edit]

Alignment: Neutral Evil, Chaotic Neutral, or Chaotic Evil.

Invocation Required: Dark one's own luck, serpent's tongue, or beguiling influence.

Influence: A serpent god patron is somewhat unique in terms of their influence. Many of the serpentine entities that might be patrons fall into other warlock patron categories as well. As such, their motives and influence vary widely. Common expectations of serpent god patrons are complete loyalty, obedience, and subservience. The serpent is a cunning and proud creature and a serpent god's personality might reflect that.

Pact Bound (Ex): Upon forming the pact, your patron grants you a small gift of power. You gain the poison use ability and are never at risk of poisoning yourself when applying poison to a weapon. Additionally, you may speak to and understand serpentine creatures as the tongues spell if the creature is intelligent and as the speak with animals spell if not. Non-intelligent serpents start with their initial attitude one step friendlier towards you.

Damage Reduction (Ex): The damage reduction granted by your patron is overcome by cold iron.

Patron's Resilience (Ex): Your serpentine patron grants you a +3 on saves vs poison and acid resistance 5.

Otherworldly Aura (Su): You gain a 10ft aura of aversion; enemies entering your aura or those present in your aura when you activate it must make a will save (DC = 10 + 1/2 CL + Cha) or suffer an intense phobia of snakes and snakelike creatures. Affected creatures feels the need to stay at least 20 feet away from any snake or other serpent, alive or dead. A subject that is unable to move away, chooses to remain, or is attacked by a serpentine creature, is overcome with revulsion. This revulsion inflects a -4 penalty to the creature's dexterity and a -2 penalty on saving throws against fear, stunning, dazing, and paralysis.

The pact warlock counts as a serpentine creature for the purpose of this ability's effects. This aura does not affect other serpentine creatures. A creature that succeeds against your aura of aversion is immune to it for 24 hours.

Gift of the Patron (Sp): You gain Vitriolic Blast as a bonus invocation.

Pact Ability (Su):

Poisoned Whisper (6th, greater): You may cast suggestion at will. One minute after the suggestion is made, the victim must make a second Will save or the poisoned whisper eats its way through the victim's mind, affecting them as a modify memory spell. Only 1 minute of memory may be affected at a time with this spell and the memories being modified are chosen when the invocation is cast.

A pact warlock may also use their Poisoned Whisper to cast modify memory on willing creatures at will. The effect is identical to the spell.

Poisoned whisper is a mind-affecting compulsion effect.

Transcendence (Ex): You become a monstrous humanoid. As a monstrous humanoid you are no longer affected by abilities that target humanoids such as hold person. Additionally, your resilience increases, giving you a +6 on saves versus poison and acid resistance 10. These bonuses override the previous ones granted by Patron's Resilience. Finally, your skin toughens and becomes tiny scales, granting you a +1 natural bonus to AC. These scales are not immediately obvious but can be noticed with a DC15 spot check. If you attempt to hide your scales the spot check DC is the result of a disguise check instead.

Final Blessing (Sp):

Elder Serpent Blast (7th, greater, eldritch essense}: This invocation changes your eldritch blast into an elder serpent blast. The blast takes the form of a giant spectral snake, or torrent of snakes, and contains a deadly magical poison (Fort negates). This poison is chosen when a pact warlock sleeps and remains the same until they change it after they sleep again. The choices are as follows:

  • 1d4 Str or Dex primary / secondary damage
  • 1d3 Int, Wis, or Cha primary / secondary damage
  • 1d2 Con primary / secondary damage

This poison is magically conjured and any damage dealt by it fades after 1 hour.
