Ex, Su, or Sp[edit]

The class features need to be labeled as Ex, Su, or Sp. —Sledged 12:49, 27 September 2006 (MDT)

Rating - 4/10[edit]

On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is abysmal, 5 is adequate, and 10 is damned inspired and well implemented, I rate this entry at a 4. I find the arrangement clunky. The class does not build very well on itself. Much more attention needs to be paid on how clerics interact with the class, and how psionics interact with the class. It's problems are not so much balance as game design in nature. I liked the ability for spontaneous protections. --Dmilewski 07:26, 8 December 2006 (MST)

I, too, would rate this as a 4. I like it, and intend to give it a higher rating later, but there are some mechanical issues to be resolved. For instance, "the witch may only prepare spells from her Book of Shadows": this is probably just a wording issue, but as written, it denies a Wizard access to her existing spellbook! Furthermore, the most obvious comparison is with the Mystic Theurge, who is 3 caster levels behind a straight caster in each class (assuming the usual Cleric/Wizard build) but gets plenty of spells per day from both class tables: whereas this class ends up 5 levels behind a straight caster and spells-per-day are still coming from one table, which seems rather weak (I don't think that the other abilities are enough to compensate). Conversely, it might be over-powered if the character dips in for just 2 levels: a straight Sorcerer could do this, losing one caster level to gain many 0th and 1st level spells plus any 2 spells from the Cleric or Druid tables (like maybe Divine Power and Heal, or whatever). I'm assuming that, unlike a Wizard, the Witch can't learn more spells from scrolls: as the Book of Shadows resembles a spellbook in other respects, maybe this should be explicitly stated. If they CAN, then arcane casters gain access to the entire Cleric and Druid spell tables at 2nd level: which is far too good for level-dipping. --Findail 06:59, 15 December 2006 (MST)

I agree. It needs altering. Why not replace it with the suggestion of how to make a witch class in the DMG and build on it? Its to... yes, "clunky" is the perfect word. Not witchy is it, being clunky? Complete divine is not a core rulebook, so rules refrences in a class (or any other rules set) should not refrence it: it makes it hard for people without the book to play the class. Also, the Psionics thing should not be there: I have never heard of a psionic witch (except in Doctor Who or perhaps 40K, but that's just the nature of those things). And whats that about witches and divinity? What about the good old witch-hunt? It also needs ist own spell list. This should really be a base class.Sam Kay 02:36, 23 June 2007 (MDT)

Remove/Rename[edit]

If there's no activity from the author re: this class within a lil' while, I'd suggest renaming/removing this class. It contrasts sharply with the other Witch, which is still under development by the author (User:Arohanui) and seems to be better (in my opinion). Comments? --Othtim 13:46, 5 March 2008 (MST)

Should we just make it a stub and call it good? I mean, after all, one is a PrC and the other is Base Class... --Green Dragon 19:31, 5 March 2008 (MST)

Power - <<<5>>>/5 I give this class a <<<5>>> out of 5 because <<<this class is very adaptable to most of of the settings of DnD and homemade settings, it is not unbalanced but since very interesting to play.>>> --132.208.27.212 22:34, 5 March 2008 (MST)

Wording - <<<5>>>/5 I give this class a <<<4>>> out of 5 because <<<it's really well explained, lacking a few more details in the introduction.>>> --132.208.27.212 22:34, 5 March 2008 (MST)

Formatting - <<<4>>>/5 I give this class a <<<4>>> out of 5 because <<<the class is intelligently crafted, but a little bit weird in the way caster levels, manifester levels and spells are supposed to work.>>> --132.208.27.212 22:34, 5 March 2008 (MST)

Flavor - <<<5>>>/5 I give this class a <<<5>>> out of 5 because <<<it's really great, I'm quite jealous it's not my idea. The class got a touch of celtic mysterie but is not overwhelm by it. The potential for deepness in pc's concepts is incredible. Bravo!>>> --132.208.27.212 22:34, 5 March 2008 (MST)
