Talk:Nightwings (5e Race)

As per the tag:

  • Flying speed + powerful traits, more than the aarakocra with their measly unarmed strikes and proficiency.
  • Fire Breath is very ill-defined, not having an action to use or even a range. If anything it should be like dragonborn's breath weapon, which also at least limits its use. But that, coupled with flying, would already be way better than even avariel with their fey ancestry and elven base race traits.
  • Shadow step could just say "darkness" ("You have advantage in dexterity (stealth) checks made while in darkness") or use wording similar to the Nocturne (5e Race), which is a featured article.
  • Knowledge seekers is more of the sage background feature, more than a trait. It doesn't really belong.
  • Claws and bite are kinda repetitive with the unarmed attack theme. You usually see this in creatures, but not so much in races, since they take up room that could be used for more unique and flavorful traits.
  • The subraces are overpowered in giving you unconditional advantages in three skill checks.--Yanied (talk) 09:33, 26 February 2020 (MST)
Are you familiar with the Wings of Fire? If not, I recommend reading it. Anyway, I don't really know how else to make this race. I will take off the Bite and fix the stealth but fire-breathing and flying is kind of- Or maybe I could make a Dragonborn variant... An idea for another time, perhaps... --Flamestarter (talk) 10:01, 27 February 2020 (MST)
Geodude recommended a race/class composite so it gradually improves, if that helps. Also I see the tag is removed but the things that are problematic other than the flight and breath weapon are still there (knowledge trait and the triple unconditional skill advantages)--Yanied (talk) 10:32, 27 February 2020 (MST)
