Talk:Expand Spell (3.5e Feat)

Interesting Metamagic Feat, I do like it and it seems to be alright. But there is one thing that just bugs me about it. If it increases the area of effect by five feet in all dimensions, then wouldn't it directly increase the Fireballs radius instead of directly increasing it's diameter? Meaning that it would have a radius of 25-ft and a diameter of 50-ft. Just a thought. ~ SilentPC

Don't we already have SRD:Widen Spell? 164.38.32.28 08:14, 5 April 2013 (MDT)

This is something of a weaker version of Widen Spell. The only viable application of this feat would be if you did not want to increase the Spell Slot LV of the spell by three LVs. But then again, if you did go for the full three LVs then you would effectively double the range/area of the effect, so this feature is kind of useless in that aspect. Maybe alter it into a variant form of Widen Spell with scaling Spell Slot LV. Like 'increase spell slot by one level for 25% increase, two levels for 50% increase and three levels for 100% increase', or something to that effect if you were looking for a feat that would allow you to do pretty much the same thing but at a lesser extent. Or maybe even go through four level increments with 25% added with each level, though that would mean that you could just take widen spell for more of an effective metamagic. Though you would be trading the effectiveness for the versatility, so that could be the difference between the two. ~ SilentPC
