Sword and Board[edit]

You are trained in fighting with martial weapons and shields.

Class: Fighter

Level: 1st

Replaces: If you select this class feature, you do not gain a fighter bonus feat at first level, 8th level, and 14th level.

Benefit: When fighting with a one-handed, martial melee weapon, increase the damage from your Strength bonus by .5. Normally, this increases your Strength modifier damage to x1.5, just as if you were using a two-handed weapon. In addition, when using Power Attack with one-handed, martial melee weapon, it gains bonus damage as if it were a two-handed weapon.

When fighting with a one-handed, martial light melee weapon, increase the damage from your Strength bonus by .5. Normally, this increases your Strength modifer to damage to x1.0, just as if you were using a martial melee weapon. When you Power Attack with these weapons, treat them as normal weapons (as if they were not light).

Deflecting Shield (Ex): Starting at 8th level, instead of gaining a feat, you gain the ability to deflect deadly blows with your shield. While using a shield (but not a buckler), melee and ranged attacks against you have a 20% chance to miss you. Treat this ability as concealment. You cannot use this ability against attacks when you are flat-footed or denied your Dexterity bonus to AC.

Improved Deflecting Shield (Ex): Starting at 14th level, instead of gaining a feat, you improve your ability to deflect deadly blows with your shield. Melee and ranged attacks now have a 50% chance to miss you.
