Standing upright before you is an enormous brown monster, built like an elephant with a huge gaping maw taking up most of its face. A larger mouth is visible on its abdomen. Both of its mouths are drooling with delight as it tramples towards you.

A Spiritmonger is a rare dominarian beast, feared by most. It stands at a whopping nine and a half feet and is covered in dark brownish scales. It has a huge maw taking up most of its face, with a mouth set into its stomach as well with long, sharp teeth. The Spiritmonger is avoided by almost every other beast on Dominaria, legends tell of it destroying entire cities.

Combat[edit]

The Spiritmonger is a hunter by nature, and it prefers intelligent prey. It attacks by using the large mouth on its underbelly to try an eat the souls of its prey. If surrounded, it will thrash about. It is fearsome and will never back down from a fight. Spiritmongers do not speak. A Spiritmonger may be summoned with a Summon Nature's Ally VIII spell.

Augmented Critical (Ex): When attacking with its underbite, a Spiritmonger threatens a critical hit on a roll of 19-20 and deals triple damage if confirmed.

Soul Siphon (Su): When a Spiritmonger attacks using its underbite, it attempts to devour its prey's soul. Any enemy struck by the Spiritmonger's underbite must succeed on a fortitude save (DC 22) or take 1d3 points of constitution damage. The DC is constitution-based. At the end of any round in which the Spiritmonger dealt constitution damage, it regains 5 hit points. Any excess are gained as temporary hit points.

Thrash (Ex): When surrounded by enemies, a Spiritmonger may start thrashing about. When a Spiritmonger thrashes, roll a claw attack against each opponent within the Spiritmonger's reach. Each opponent hit this way must succeed on a Reflex Save (DC = 10+damage dealt) or be sent flying 10 feet away from the Spiritmonger, landing prone and taking 1d6 falling damage.

Adaptive Resistance (Ex): A spiritmonger has no passive resistance to elemental damage, but as it receives damage from a certain energy type, it adapts to be resistant to that damage. If a Spiritmonger takes elemental damage (fire, sonic, etc.), it will then gain resistance 10 against that element for the next 2d4 rounds. The effects are not cumulative, more damage just extends the Spiritmonger's adaptive resistance.
