Portal Mastery School[edit]

Wizard Subclass

An offshoot of the school of conjuration, Portal Masters hyperfocus on the control of portals, mastering spells that enable them to open rifts in the material plane, from where otherworldly beings can pass through, and allowing them to swiftly move between spaces.

Conjuration Savant

Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, the gold and time you must spend to copy a Conjuration spell into your spellbook is halved.

Lesser Portals

Starting at 2nd level, you can open a lesser portal that allows you to teleport through short distances. As an Action choose two unoccupied spaces within 120 feet of each other. For one round, a creature can move through one of the spaces and teleport to the other chosen space, if unoccupied.

You can use this ability once, being unable to do so again until you finish a short or a long rest.

Planar Savant

At 6th level, your study over portals grant you great understanding about planes and their nature. You have Advantage on all Intelligence checks made related to the planes and creatures native from other planes.

In addition, you can use an Action to enhance your senses to detect outside influences. For the next 1 minute, you can sense the presence of any creature not native from the material plane within 60 feet (as if using detect evil and good), and you can sense the presence, general direction and distance of portals within 1 mile. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum 1) and regain uses after a Long Rest.

Instant Windows

At 10th level, whenever you cast a spell that requires a spell slot, you can use a Bonus Action to open a Lesser Portal without expending uses of that feature. This portal closes at the end of your turn.

If the spell used is from the conjuration school, opening this portal doesn't require an Action.

Portal Mastery

At 14th level, you gain greater understanding and control over portals. You gain the following benefits:

  • You learn the Arcane Gate spell, which you can cast once, without spending a spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.
  • You can cast Arcane Gate using a Bonus Action. In addition, you can use a Bonus Action to move the portals up to 30 feet to any direction.
  • Alternatively, you can use this feature to cast Gate once, without spending a spell slot. Once you use this feature to cast that spell, you can't benefit from this feature for the next 7 days.
