Orristaten[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

Cloaked_figure.jpg

The orristaten are a gray skinned race of the northern Taigas. Their skin tones can range from black to light red-gray. Their hands and digitigrade feet have four digits each. Their unique faces have seven possible locations for their eyes, the normal sites, just above and below those and in the middle of their foreheads. They can have any number of eyes In any combination of theses sites and the rest of the sites act as heat pits. However the vast majority of orristaten wear all concealing cloaks. These cloaks are made and maintained by the orristaten in question and are heavily and ritually personalized.

The traditional orristaten cloak will have their family, their city, and may have any great deeds they have accomplished. These cloaks use muted colors and greys to show off the intricate thread work in their design. A few of the more modern orristaten may choose louder colors to show off simpler and larger decoration.

History[edit]

As a race, orristaten are typically a quiet people fond of commerce and the function of their cities. However, they have an unfortunate practice of occasionally raising a legion to conquer an empire. Then marching out to conquer neighboring orristaten cities and towns of other races. The resulting empire is usually short lived as they rarely have a precedence for succession. If not destroyed by some outside force the empire will fall to infighting amongst the former leaders of the individual cities. If not for the orristaten's well defended cities, these counterattacks would have destroyed their society long ago.

It is not known where the orristaten people come from. Some assume their desire for yet inability to keep an empire means they come from some long ago warlords plan for the ideal servant that grew beyond its purpose.

Society[edit]

The orristaten society is one built on people working to build a city. Their cities in the taigas are created as a giant ring, with the center being dug out to build the large outer wall. Orristaten society is split into several castes and then the caste-less. The members of the castes are individuals that at birth were given chemical treatments to create those specialized castes. The castes then receive preferential treatment for as long as their training remains relevant to the needs of the city. Their odd mannerisms and the controlled nature of their society leave many visitors alienated, but their high quality goods and services draw them in any way.

Some of the younger orristaten have broken away from the city centered traditions of the older generations. These young orristaten may not wear the traditional concealing cloak or wear it with louder colors. They also may reject their home city entirely to live among other races.

Orristaten Names[edit]

Orristaten Names are usually short phrases with a single word being the common use name. Orristaten believe that a name must be literally made and family members will go out on a quest to make one if one is not on hand when a child is expected.
