Normal Double Weapons had absolutely awkward balance, what required re-forging. New model of Double Weapons have all blades facing one direction, therefore allowing for better grip and usage without special training.

A character can fight with both parts of a one-sided double weapon as if fighting with two weapons, and he or she doesn't incur the normal attack penalties associated with two-weapon combat.

The character can also choose to use one-sided double weapon two handed, attacking with only one part of it. A creature wielding a one-sided double weapon in one hand can use it as a double weapon; it is possible to wield two one-sided double weapons, with all normal attack penalties associated with two-weapon combat, one weapon being main and other off-handed.

Such weapons are 2 lbs lighter than normal Double Weapons, due to better handle. Normal weapon can be turned into One-Sided Double weapon - either doubling it's mass, cost and increasing size one step - or doubling cost, decreasing damage dice one step, and leaving mass and size same.
