Oath of the Shiranui[edit]

Paladin Subclass

“I have walked among the silent dead and heard their weeping. I swore not vengeance, but remembrance—and to ensure their pain burns with purpose.” Unknown Shiranui

Paladins who swear the Oath of the Shiranui serve as spiritual wardens between the worlds of the living and the dead. They wield ghostflame—a spectral fire that sears the body and soul—to burn away corruption, haunt evil-doers, and guide lingering spirits. Their presence is solemn, unsettling, and sacred.

Whereas other paladins fight for the living, Shiranui fight for the balance between life and death.

Tenets of the Shiranui

The exact form of the Oath of the Shiranui varies, but all adherents uphold these tenets:
Honor the Dead. All who have passed deserve remembrance and peace.
Burn the Tainted. Undead, cursed beings, and those who defile the veil must be purged with fire.
Walk Between. Never fear shadow or flame—they are tools, not evils.
Guard the Silence. Secrets of the dead are not for the living to exploit.

Channel Divinity
Ghostflame Brand. As an action, you imbue your weapon with spectral flame. The spectral flame shimmers in a 20-foot radius of dim light. For 1 minute, you can replace any damage dealt by this weapon with ghostflame damage, and undead or incorporeal creatures hit by your smite must make a Wisdom saving throw or become frightened until the end of your next turn.
Exorcist’s Rebuke. As an action, choose one creature within 30 feet that you can see. If it is undead, a fiend, or cursed (DM's discretion), it must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failure, it takes radiant or ghostflame damage equal to twice your paladin level and is banished to the Ethereal Plane until the end of your next turn.
Aura of Silent Vigil

At 7t level, your presence disturbs unnatural spirits and shields the souls of allies.

While you are conscious, allies within 10 feet of you have resistance to necrotic damage and cannot be possessed nor have their hit points or ability scores maximum reduced.

At 18th level, this aura extends to 30 feet.

Ethereal Step

At 15th level, you can briefly walk the boundary between the material and ethereal worlds. As a bonus action, you become incorporeal until the start of your next turn.

While in this form, you have a flying speed equal to your movement speed, you can hover, and attack rolls have disadvantage against you.

You can also move through creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain, but you take 1d10 force damage if you end your turn inside a creature or an object.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum 1), regaining all uses on a short or a long rest.

Avatar of the Ghostflame

At 20th level, you become a blazing spiritual figure of remembrance and retribution.

As an action, you transform for 1 minute, gaining the following benefits:

  • You emit 30 feet of bright light and 30 more feet of dim light, all as ghostflame. Enemies in this light cannot turn invisible or become ethereal.
  • When you hit with a melee weapon attack, you deal an extra 2d10 ghostflame damage.
  • Undead and fiends that start their turn within 30 feet of you must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + Charisma modifier) or become frightened for 1 minute.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

Ghostflame[edit]

Whenever the text refers to Ghostflame, that means that the damage caused counts as both fire and necrotic, for the purposes of overcoming resistances to damage.

For example, a creature with no resistances take either fire or necrotic damage. However, a creature that is immune or resistant to fire damage, will still take the fire damage portion of the ghostflame, and vice versa.
