Oath of the Hunt (5e Subclass)
Oath of the Hunt[edit]
Paladin Subclass
Paladins who follow this oath believe that they hunt for a spiritual or religious purpose and that every part of the prey must be used and nature is the true lifestyle. You are the hunter and the target is the prey, almost like a rouge as they are subtle and quick just as you are when you are on the hunt. These paladins are not your typical creature with a bow in hand and a handful of arrows tucked tightly in a quiver but instead a quick attacker, waiting for their target to make the wrong move and strive with their divine power.
- Tenets of the Hunt
The tenets of the hunt have these main tenets:
One of Nature Nature must be preserved for the hunt as it is the life of the hunt.
Hunt the Prey You are the hunter and your job is to bring down the prey. Once you have found your target, you cannot let them go and die by anyone except by help from you.
Strike True Do not waste effort. Every strike must find its target, every blow must have a purpose.
- Oath Spells
You gain Oath spells at the Paladin level listed:
Paladin Level | Spells |
---|---|
3rd | hunter's mark, speak with animals |
5th | pass without trace, misty step |
9th | conjure animals, haste |
13th | locate creature, freedom of movement |
17th | tree stride, swift quiver |
- Channel Divinity
Starting at 3rd level, you gain the following Channel Divinity options.
Locate Prey As an action, you can use your Channel Divinity to sense your chosen prey. Choose one creature you can see within 60 feet. For 1 hour, you always know the direction and distance to that creature, as long as it is on the same plane of existence. This effect ends early if the creature dies or you use this feature again.
Mark of the Hunted As a bonus action, you can use your Channel Divinity to mark a creature you can see within 60 feet. For 1 minute, you add your Charisma modifier to attacks against the marked creature.
- Aura of the Stalker
At 7th level, you and friendly creatures within 10 feet of you gain advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks and cannot be hindered by non-magical difficult terrain.
At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.
- Unstoppable Pursuit
Starting at 15th level, when you miss an attack against a creature marked by you (either by Hunter's Mark or your Mark of the Hunted), you can use your reaction to reroll that attack against that creature.
In addition, you can use a Bonus Action in each of your turns to teleport to an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the marked creature, if you are within 60 feet of it.
- Relentless Predator
At 20th level, you gain the ability to become the avatar of the hunt. As an Action, you gain the following benefits for 1 minute.
- You are invisible for the duration.
- Once per turn when you damage a creature marked by you (either by Hunter's Mark or your Mark of the Hunted), that creature must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC, or is stunned until the end of your next turn.
- Once before this feature ends, you can turn a normal hit into a critical hit.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
