This spell is normally cast on an undead within sight of the caster. The result is that she knows the undead's sire. This allows the caster to know who turned a person into a vampire or zombie, whether that occurred through necromantic magic or through infection. Once it has been cast and the caster knows the identity of a sire, she may cast it again and know who sired that person (e.g. the grand-sire of the original target). This has no effect on someone who was turned by a necromancer. Spellcasters may only cast this on a sire whose identity they know through a Know Sire spell, not through discovering a sire's identity by other means.
