The Ghost Dragon[edit]

Warlock Subclass

Your patron is an Ancient Dragon who has unfortunately met their end prematurely. While a powerful being, they were still a mortal creature. Through force of will and a purpose to keep living, they manifest themselves as the Ghost Dragon. The Dragons body transformed into stone, metal, lava, ice, or mist. All that remains of the Ghost Dragon is a transformed heart or other organ. The Ghost Dragon has the capability of channeling power through other creatures in possession of their transformed organ, in exchange for their service. Warlocks who make a pact with an Undead Dragon are a devoted servant to their patrons, often bestowed with completing the dragons need for revenge or noble quest.

Mark Of The Dragon[edit]

Upon accepting an Undead Dragon as your patron, they imbue you with their essence. Roll a d8 to determine your physical changes.

d6 Mark
1 Scales the same color as your patron's.
2 You have sharp teeth.
3 You may accidentally slightly (shock/burn/freeze) people who touch you.
4 You have a forked tongue.
5 The area around you is always (hot/cold/static).
6 You have horns or other draconic facial features.
7 One or both your eyes changes color to match your patron.
8 Your hair (or a streak of it) changes color to match your patron.

Force Of Personality[edit]

With the overwhelming power and lingering desires of a dead dragon inside you, your personality (Alignment) is altered. Take one or more of the dragons alignments. (For example, if the dragon was lawful good, and the player neutral good, you could change to lawful good)

Expanded Spell List[edit]

The Dragon lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

Spell Level Spell
1st chromatic orb, false life
2nd lesser restoration, Nathair's mischief
3rd Ashardalon's stride, speak with dead
4th greater invisibility, Raulothim's psychic lance
5th legend lore, summon draconic spirit

Additionally, the Ghost Dragon Patron teaches you to cheat death. You learn the spare the dying cantrip. It is a warlock cantrip for you, but it doesn't count against your number of cantrips known.

Draconic Affinity[edit]

When you choose this patron at 1st level, you choose one type of dragon as your patron. You gain the Eldritch Breath ability (See Spectral Dragon Form). Your Eldritch Breath feature is determined by the dragon type, as shown in the table below. The damage type of your Eldritch Blast is changed in association with your dragon patron, this damage type is used by other features you gain later.

Draconic Gift[edit]

Upon accepting your patron, you are rewarded with an uncommon Draconic Gift. Choose either Draconic Familiar, Draconic Rebirth, or Tongue Of The Dragon. (Fizban's Treasury Of Dragons)

Spectral Dragon Form[edit]

At 1st level, you manifest an aspect of your patron’s spectral power. The appearance of your Spectral Dragon Form reflects some aspect of your patron. For example, your form could be a pair of horns growing from your crown, vestigial wings, changing of color, scales, or ghostly draconic auras and appendages.

As a bonus action, you transform for 1 minute, taking on traits of your spectral patron. Additionally each trait can only be used a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You gain the following traits while transformed:

  • Dragon's Last Breath: Once per transformation, you gain temporary hit points equal to 1d10 + your warlock level. After 1 minute has elapsed, subtract the added hit points. If you're in battle and your hit points are 0, you are unconscious. If you are out of battle, your hit points are set to 1.
  • Eldritch Breath: You can use your action to emulate the dragon's breath weapon with your magic. Your Draconic Affinity determines the size, shape, and damage type of your Eldritch Breath. Creatures in the area of effect must make a Dexterity saving throw, or take 1d10 your selected draconic affinity. On a successful save, creatures take half damage. You can expend a pact magic spell slot to empower the Eldritch Breath by dealing 1d10 additional damage per level expended. The base damage increases to 2d10 at 5th level, 3d10 at 11th level and 4d10 at 17th level.
  • Take Cover: Whenever you or up to one other creature within 5 feet is targeted by an attack roll, as a reaction you can cause your patrons spectral energy to sprout and take shape of wings on your back. These wings wrap around the defending player and are made from the element of your Eldritch Breath. Add your proficiency bonus to the defending players armor class, possibly causing an attack to miss. If the Attack still hits you, you can reduce the damage taken by half your warlock level rounded down (min of 1). You can not use this feature if you are wearing armor or wearing a shield.

You can not transform again until taking a long rest.

Draconic Essence[edit]

Starting at 6th level, your bond with your patron imbues you with a piece of their magical draconic essence. You have resistance to the damage type dealt by your Eldritch Breath feature, and when one of your spells or class features deals damage of that type to a creature, you can subject that creature to your patron's terrifying draconic presence. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw against your warlock spell save DC. On a failed saving throw, it becomes frightened for 1 minute. The target repeats the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Your Spectral Dragon Form also gains:

  • Wings Unfurled: You manifest spectral wings the same element as your Eldritch Breath, and can choose to beat them for an action. Each creature within 15 must succeed a dexterity saving throw, or be knocked prone. You have also gained the ability to fly at your movement speed.

Draconic Scales[edit]

At 10th level, your patron grants you the ability to draw on the true might of its scales. Before you take damage, you can use your reaction to harden your scales for a brief moment. Until the end of your next turn, you gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage, and immunity to the damage type dealt by your Eldritch Breath feature.

Once you use your reaction in this way, you can't do so again until you finish a short or long rest.

Draconic Presence[edit]

At 14th level, you can channel the spectral presence of your dragon patron, causing those around you to become awestruck or frightened. As an action, you can draw on this power and exude an aura of awe or fear (your choice) to a distance of 60 feet. For 1 minute or until you lose your concentration (as if you were casting a concentration spell), hostile creatures that starts its turn in this aura must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against a DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + Charisma modifier or be charmed (if you chose awe) or frightened (if you chose fear) until the aura ends. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to your Draconic Presence for the next 24 hours.

You must complete a long rest to use this feature again.

Unique Eldritch Invocations[edit]

Draconic Sight (Prerequisite: Dragon Patron, 10th level)

You can see the true form of any shape changer or creature concealed by illusion or transmutation magic while the creature is within 20 feet of you and within line of sight.

Draconic Resistance (Prerequisite: Dragon Patron, 14th level)

You can reroll a saving throw that you fail. If you do so, you must use the new roll, and you can't use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
