Gelflings[edit]

Personality[edit]

Gelfling are prone to simple living. While their homes vary from clan to clan, all Gelflings believe that taking more than their share is more harmful than good as it also does them more harm than good. A Gelfling is so in tune with nature that when it's surroundings are unbalanced and unhealthy then they are often uneasy and unhealthy. Gelfling are known for their honesty,friendliness and warmth.

Physical Description[edit]

Gelflings are never more than 2-3 feet in height. They possess four digits on hands and feet and pointed ears. Their skin color, eye color and hair color varies by clan. Women have a pair of collapsible wings that offer flight.Below is a breakdown of the seven Gelfling clans,based on each clan’s culture and environment;

Grottan Clan: The Grottan are the cave dwellers. They have bigger ears and bigger eyes. Being in the cave, they developed differently. Residence: The Caves of Grot, underground; accessible to the Sanctuary Tree. Physical Characteristics: Big eyes that are photosensitive, larger ears. They’re also pale. Other Characteristics: A strong and proud, but gentle race. They eat glow moss found in the caves and also care for the nurlocs who tunnel there.

Stonewood Clan: They’re the more woodland warrior, classic type of gelfling. They are strong and tribal in their clan. Residence: Stonewood in the Dark Wood, adjacent to the Crystal Castle. Physical Characteristics: Dark hair and strong compared to other Gelfing. Other Characteristics: Fierce and known for their prowess in battle.

Vapra Clan: The Vapra are of the air, the mountains. They are the higher clan of gelfling, certainly because of the All-Maudra is the head of that clan, but also the head of all gelflings in their society.They’re sort of pale and they think themselves higher above. They don’t like Grottans, they look down on them. Residence: The mountains and cliffs along the northern coast. Ha’rar is the capital. Physical Characteristics: Fair skin with white hair, often found elaborately braided Other Characteristics: Well-educated and cultured, but also believing themselves to be better than other Gelfling clans

Drenchen Clan: They are from the marshes, and they are most amphibious, wetland, swamp-like Gelfling clan. They have the feeling of algae and moss, that seaweed-type quality to them. Residence: Swamp of Sog, mainly residing in the town of Great Smerth, which is named after an enormous tree at the center. Physical Characteristics: Greenish tinge, gills and wings used for swimming. Incredibly strong, the equal to most tall folk. Other Characteristics: Fierce warriors.

Sifa Clan:The Sifas are obviously the sailors, they are the sea, they travel wide via ship,They are gypsies as well. They have that quality to them, sort of colorful, pirate-like almost. But they don’t trust other clans either. Residence: Mainly at sea, but they live along the coastal villages of the Silver Sea, including the port of Cera-Na. They also travel in a clanship named the Omerya, which is made of coral. Physical Characteristics: Many of them appear to have russet hair and favor blue attire(The clan's sacred color). Other Characteristics: Skilled fishermen and sailors. They’re free-spirited and adventurous, but superstitious and know about symbols. They will welcome any other clans into their ranks as long as they can deal with the Sifa lifestyle.

Dousan Clan:The Dousan then are of the deserts, the nomads. They’re also the most secretive and they aren’t seen by many because they keep to themselves,hey have green markings and paintwork on them and their skin turns different colors. Whether it be through berries that they’ve eaten or just genetics. They have a great relationship with geometry and magic that is unknown to other Gelfling, including Necromancy. Residence: Crystal Desert; can be found gathered at the Wellspring, a verdant oasis deep in the Crystal Desert. Physical Characteristics: Colorful, painted skin. Other Characteristics: They have a relationship with the giant, ray-like creatures called Crystal Skimmers and rarely travel beyond the desert. Dousan shamans hold ancient rituals involving music, known for affinity with the circle of life and death. They’re the only clan banned from being castle guards or Paladins

Spriton Clan:The Spriton are the more of the land, the farmer race of Gelfling. Tonally those guys are more russet and auburn tone to them,Harvest, things like that, that’s all they’re about really. Residence: Southern plains of Thra; many are from Sami Thicket, but travel to trade with other parts. Physical Characteristics: Tan skins, darker hair. Other Characteristics: Knowledge of fine arts, agriculture, and creature husbandry

Relations[edit]

Gelfling are a friendly people and do not hold any race higher or lower than themselves unless they have wronged the Gelfling in the past someway. Gelfling have an ability that's called Dreamfasting which allows Gelfling to share another Gelfling individuals thoughts and memories with a touch. This of course works both ways, as the Gelfling can also share the other Gelfling's thoughts. This helps keep the peace between the Gelflings and, it shows that neither have anything to hide. Dreamfasting only works with other Gelfling, it is their unique bond as a race.

Alignment[edit]

Gelfling tend to be of the good or neutral alignment.

Lands[edit]

Gelflings feel most comfortable living as one with the land (see Clan descriptions). Their communion with nature allows them to better live in the naturally hostile environment. (Bogs and marshes are also homes to the Drenchen who commune with the muddy waters and its inhabitants, for example.) Their homes are often geometric and made of carved stone and or rare woods. Gelfings often carve beautiful artwork into the walls and furniture ,as art is ever present in their dwellings and often incorporate themes related to their natural surroundings.

Language[edit]

Gelfling have their own language and it is written in pictograms. Gelfling language is called Grana, which translates to 'words that are heard,' the pictograms are called Granof, which means 'words that stay.'

They are capable of understanding most other creatures and in older times, higher society Gelfling (such as royalty) were known for reading and writing very well. A common language most Gelfling variants understand is the Podling language.

Names[edit]

Gelfling names are passed down from ancestor to children. Most names in Gelfling culture are simple, 2 syllables for females and one for men.

Ex. Female: Kira, Kita, Hara. Male: Gen, Hoz, Jin.

Racial Traits[edit]

  • +2 Dexterity, −2 Strength: Due to Gelfling's size they are faster and physically weaker than other species.
  • Humanoid (Fey)
  • Small: +1 to Armor Class, +1 on attack rolls, +4 on hide checks, −4 penalty on grapple checks, lifting and carrying limits 3/4 those of medium characters.
  • Gelflings base land speed is 20 feet: Female Glide speed is 40 feet
  • Females only: Gliding (Ex): A female Gelfling can use her wings to glide, negating damage taken from a fall from any height and allowing 20 feet of forward travel for every 5 feet of descent. Even if a Gelfling's manuverability improves, she cant hover while gliding. A Gelfling can't glide with a medium or heavy load. If a gelfling is rendered unconcious or helpless while in midair, her wings naturally stiffen. She then desends in a tight corkscrew and takes only 1d6 of falling damage, no matter what the distance fo fall is.
  • Males only: Comprehend Languages(Sp): Constant; Male Gelflings can understand any language that is spoken to them, however this does not mean they can respond in the same manner. Caster level is 5.
  • Dreamfasting (Ps): 3 times a day— When a Gelfling makes physical contact with an individuals flesh it will automatically cast: charm monster(DC 17) detect thoughts (DC 15) suggestion(DC 16). Manifester level is 8. The save DC is Charisma-based.
  • Automatic Languages: Common, Grana, Sylvan. Bonus Languages: Any accept for secret ones.
  • Favored Class: Male- Bard, Mage, Sorcerer, Druid. Females- Celeric, Druid
  • Level Adjustment: +1
