Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: Stronger than any first party race and uses incomplete and incorrect wording throughout. The traits need to be mechanically worded correctly as they are often vague or written like casual conversation. resistance to non-magical weapons is ridiculous, the race name is inconsistent throughout, practically unconditional advantage, out of standard telepathy, can they speak/read/write common? the breadcrumbs are broken. Overall poorly executed and needs a rework both from a mechanic and lore perspective to better integrate with the first party content. Consult the 5e Race Design Guide for help and see the Featured Articles pages for some exemplary content.

Lost Shadow[edit]

"To one who knows the exact method of their death, fear of death itself is a distant speck on the horizon, a problem for another day." - Archduke Draken

Physical Description[edit]

The Lost Shadows have been described as "shadow men", mostly because they don't fully exist in any realm, causing them to be slightly transparent in appearance. They resemble dark, transparent humanoids with the exception of their face, which appears featureless below their eyes, as though they were wearing a wispy mask. Their coloration tends towards the darker end of the spectrum, with most possessing grey, black, or dark brown skin. This also applies to their hair color, with the majority of Lost Shadows having black or dark brown hair. Eye color is the exception to his rule, as the Lost Shadows are known to have vibrant eye colors. Though beyond exceedingly rare, albino Lost Shadow are known to exist, possessing white hair and skin with pink eyes.

History[edit]

The Lost Shadow spontaneously appeared in all the realms and have slowly started to search for their "home land" despite the fact that none can recall the time before their sudden appearance, or their lives before. This amnesia present in all Lost Shadow and of equal magnitude in all of them, but so is the desire to return home.

Society[edit]

The Lost Shadows have no fixed society, possessing no memories of their own, and usually just join the first society they come across, if they are accepted there. Many societies are highly superstitious and view the Lost Shadows as one might view the boogeyman, terrifying nightmare demons. Possessing an affinity for the darkness, and a dislike for the sun, Lost shadows are more common in the societies which live underground, such as dwarven settlements and the caves which make up the Underdark.

Lost Shadow Names[edit]

Lost Shadows have two names a "death" name and a "common" name. In an attempt to leave their death as a distant future event, most Lost Shadow conceal their "death" name so it cannot be used against them.

Male common names: Alix, Richard, John

Female common names: Sam, Jill, Ann

Male death names: Sword, Hammer, Poison, Crush

Female death names: Dagger, Magic, Fire, Drown
