Creating Variant Classes[edit]

So I've noticed some classes (benders come to mind offhand) that have 3 or 4 variations and wondered what constitutes somebody being allowed to create a variation of an existing class? I've looked through quite a few classes and seen some that are being worked on currently but are Entirely broken and wanted to know if it is allowed to create a variation of them as the people who created some of them are still working on them (broken or not) and it just seemed wrong to alter them knowing they're not orphaned. I've looked through the help portion, rules/regs, and everything else I've been able to find, but I didn't find Any definitive answers. Any help or pointers here? If I missed it and someone could just link the section here, that'd be incredibly helpful even.

Ideally, if the class is being actively worked on, it would be fair to go to its talk page, point out what isn't working, then suggest your alternative there.

If it isn't being worked on, then you can go right ahead and edit it.

For making a variant, if the variation is minor, e.g. some of the features are different, I would prefer this to be presented on the same page (just make a new section at the bottom).

If the changes are significant, or you just really want a separate page, you can do this. The problem is that the license we use means that you are creating a derivative and need to attribute everyone who worked on the original. A link at the top of the page to the original's edit history is the correct thing to do (in practice though no-one does this).
