Clergy Alignments: Any evil

Favored Weapon: Yarn garrote

A great, vicious feline deity. Appears as a man-sized black cat clothed in a hooded white robe. Their purple eyes glow in the dark, and in one hand they clutch a yarn whip also usable as a garrote. Dark Neko is a fickle deity, who often spends months slumbering in the Cat Condo Caverns. But any who disturb its rest are torn apart by the vicious deity. When not sleeping, Dark Neko tends to its packs of fiendish dire tigers and contacts sleeping creatures, tempting them to join one of its many cults.

Dogma[edit]

The followers of Dark Neko often adopt many cats, to please the dark entity. Such cats can be transformed into fiendish dire tigers if Dark Neko wishes to reward the believer. Dark Neko cultists see the use of whips and garrotes as taboo, for such weapons are solely suited for their deity. They instead use adamantine daggers known as starlight shards (treat such a weapon as a +2 unholy icy burst adamantine short sword) to wage war against werewolves, sacrifice doglike creatures, or carve figurines of their deity. Growing out nails to be sharp as claws is seen as a sign of devotion to the deity.

Clergy and Temples[edit]

Dark Neko cults, also known as clowders, often have about 50-300 members. Less means the cult is still forming, more means it will soon break apart into multiple smaller cults. Each clowder has its own unique name and lair. Typical lairs are hidden from outsiders' eyes. Ideal lairs are caverns and abandoned dungeons. Dark Neko cultists capture canine creatures to sacrifice (the sacrifice is essential for some rituals such as the ritual of initiation for a new cultist). A wolf will do on an average occasion, a dire wolf is quite suitable, a werewolf is very prized, a werewolf lord is one of the best sacrifices, and a barghest is the ultimate.

Ritual of Initiation[edit]

With a suitable sacrifice, a humanoid may be initiated into a Dark Neko cult. The humanoid drinks a potion including the sacrifice's blood before the ritual begins. Two divine casters with access to third-level spells expend a third level spell casting each (no spell is cast) and the target gains low-light vision '30 and a racial +5 bonus to Climb, Listen, and Balance checks, as cat ears and a tail sprout from their body. Catlike creatures such as catfolk, catgirls, and so on are not transformed but still gain the bonus to skill checks. After this ritual, the new cultist is ready to don the cult's attire (+2 improved silent moves studded leather).
