College of Fetishes (5e Subclass)
College of Fetishes[edit]
Bard Subclass
Fetish magic, sometimes called fetishism, is the art of permanently imbuing magical power into physical objects, typically through binding nature spirits to the object or infusing it with elemental power. These objects of power typically range from woven effigies to whittled totems to intricately-carved gems. It is typically considered a form of hedge magic practiced primarily in isolated communities where cultures rely on their ability to regularly and effectively drive away both supernatural and environmental threats.
- Spiritual Conduit
When you join the College of Fetishes at 3rd level, you gain the ability to bind the supernatural within your spirit.
As an action, you can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to force one creature within 30 feet of you that is an aberration, celestial, elemental, fey, fiend, or undead to make a Charisma saving throw with a DC equal to your bard spell saving throw DC. On a failure, whenever the creature makes an ability check, attack roll, or saving throw, you may spend your reaction to roll your Bardic Inspiration die and subtract the result from its roll. You can wait until after it rolls the d20 before deciding to use this reaction, but must decide before the DM says whether the roll succeeds or fails. This lasts for 1 minute, and the target can retry this saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending this effect early on a success.
- Spell Fetish
At 6th level, you craft your first spell fetish. Choose one 1st level spell from the bard spell list that does not cause a creature to regain hit points. While wielding your spell fetish, you may cast this spell without spending a spell slot.
In order to use your spell fetish, a creature other than you must cast identify on the spell fetish and succeed on an Intelligence (Arcana) check with a DC equal to your bard spell saving throw DC. You may also tutor a creature on how to use your spell fetish over the course of a long rest instead. If another creature is using your spell fetish, it still uses your spellcasting modifier, DC, and attack bonus.
You may create a copy of your spell fetish during a long rest. Creating a copy destroys the original if it was not already and allows you to change which bard spell the spell fetish casts.
- Superior Spell Fetish
At 14th level, you craft a much more elaborate spell fetish. Your superior spell fetish acts identically to a regular spell fetish, but can cast a spell from the bard spell list of 3rd level or lower instead of a 1st level spell. Creating a copy of your superior spell fetish destroys your superior spell fetish.
Additionally, you gain two spell fetishes that act identically to your first, but can cast different 1st level spells. When you create a copy of a spell fetish, you may choose which spell fetish is destroyed.
