Chosen Vassal[edit]

The chosen vassal is a man who has be specifically chosen by his deity to become the embodiment of pure energy. It is a very rare honor and some chosen vassals believe they were picked by their deity at birth but this has yet to be proven.

Making a Chosen Vassal[edit]

The Chosen Vassal works well in all aspects, depends on which spirit you pick

Starting Gold: DMs discretion.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Chosen Vassal.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Chosen Vassals are proficient with spectral blade, not proficient in any armor nor shields.

Spectral Guardian:Starting at level 1, The chosen vassals deity provides him with a a guardian that will always be with the vassal. The chosen vassal must choose his guardian, Bōei is spirit based around defense and surviving, starts with a 2d6 hd. Damēji is a spirit based around using spectral swords to do massive damage at close range starts with 2d5 hd. Han'i is a spirit based around using spectral orbs to deal damage from afar, starts with a 2d3 hd. After picking a guardian he may not switch, if the guardian is to fall in combat the chosen vassal must make a concentration check equal to 20-wisdom modifier (if you pick dameji or han'i) constitution (if boei), if successful it manifests again at full health, if failed the chosen vassal may not manifest the guardian for 1d6 hours or until rested.


Bōei:

Spectral Blade: At level 1, the chosen vassal materializes a large spectral arm holding a blade of pure energy (long sword), Spectral blades may not be dispelled in any way nor broken, the Chosen Vassal needn't even move to attack, he may been completely still as the spectral arm(s) attack. The Chosen vassal may use this spectral arm to attack his opponent dealing 1d8 with a 10ft reach. The spectral arms damage increases by 1d8 every 5th level. The Chosen Vassal may choose to charge his blade for 1d8 per class level twice a day plus his wisdom modifier. At Level 5 The Chosen Vassal gains a second spectral arm that holds a shield of pure energy starts a Light steel shield and upgrades to a heavy steel shield at level 10 then to a tower shield at level 15 and increases its enhancement level by 1 every 5 levels after, after obtaining the shield the chosen vassal may use up his charges to his spectral blade on his shield to increase its ac bonus by 2 for half his class level rounds.

Spectral Mastery: Chosen Vassals start off with weapon focus (Spectral Blade) feat.

Spectral Toughness:Gains toughness feat at level 1.

Spectral Defense: At level 3, The Chosen Vassal materializes a very dense spectral rib cage around him connecting to the spectral arms adding his constitution modifier as armor (stacks with other forms of natural armor), applies when flat footed. Every 3 levels after, the AC of spectral defense is increased by 1. (6,9,12,15,18,21,24,27,30)

Spectral Crush: Starting at level 5, the chosen vassal may use his spectral arms to grapple an opponent, if the grapple check is successful the spectral arms begin to crush the opponent for 2d8+wis modifier.

Spectral Armor: At level 6, The chosen vassals guardians skeleton become much harder giving him Damage reduction -1, this increases by 1 every 4 levels (10,14.18,22,26,30).

Elemental Enhance: Starting at level 7, the chosen vassal may add an element to his spectral shield. Using this move gives the chosen vassal element risistance to all elements up to half his caster level + constitution modifier and lasts for his constitution modifier rounds. Adding an element risistance has a 1d4 round cooldown, cool down begins after the resistance ends.

Spectral Mastery II: starting at level 9 the chosen vassal gains greater weapon focus (spectral blade) feat.

Spectral Toughness:Gains improved toughness feat.

Spectral Body: Starting at level 10, the chosen vassal now gains the head skull of the spectral guardian. The Chosen Vassal now gains dark vision for 60 ft and may see through magical darkness. The skull now blocks out all mind altering magic that would effect the chosen vassal.

Spectral Flame Defense: Starting at level 12, The chosen vassal now sets his spectral skeleton ablaze dealing 2d6 fire damage to any one who uses melee attacks against him.

Spectral Body II: Starting at level 14, the chosen vassals spectral guardian starts to gain muscles on it. With the new body the chosen vassal gains a +1 to constitution every 4 levels after (18,22,26,30) and is treated as if wearing a breast plate with no dex bonus or speed reduction.

Spectral Roar:Starting at level 16, the chosen vassals guardian lets out a tromendous roar releasing a large amount of energy any enemy within 50 ft must make a will save of 10dc+half class level+ constitition. If failed the enemies run in fear, if successful the enemies of the chosen vassal will feel obligated to focus their attacks on him.

Spectral Body III: Starting at level 18, the chosen vassals spectral guardian becomes a shrouded humanoid. With this new form the chosen vassal is now immune to critical hits and instant death spells and is now treated as wearing splint mail.

Spectral Soul: Starting at level 19, the chosen vassal no longer ages. Any age penalties obtained thus far are nullified as his body turns back to clock to that of a 30 year old max, Immune to diseases of any kind.

Spectral Embodiment: Starting at level 20, Once a week the chosen vassal may choose to allow his spectral guardian to enter his body. Doubling his constitution stat for a brief time (5 rounds + con modifier before the guardian entered him). In this new form the chosen vassal may summon the spectral blade/shield to his hands and is wearing a full plate armor of pure energy making him shine brightly as if a god. This new form causes major strain on the body and once it has ended the chosen vassal is rendered unconscious for 1d4 days.

Spectral Favorite: Starting at level 20, The chosen vassal has proven to his deity that he is worthy of being his vassal, the chosen vassals deity now acts as a phylactery for the chosen vassal, if the vassal is to fall to -10 health he then explodes into a ball of light, his deity will revive him in 1d10 days at full health.

Damēji:

Spectral Blade: At level 1, the chosen vassal materializes a large spectral arm holding a blade of pure energy (long sword), Spectral blades may not be dispelled in any way nor broken, the Chosen Vassal needn't even move to attack, he may been completely still as the spectral arm(s) attack. The Chosen vassal may use this spectral arm to attack his opponent dealing 1d8 with a 10ft reach. The spectral arms damage increases by 2d8 every 5th level. The Chosen Vassal may choose to charge his blade for 1d8 per class level twice a day plus his wisdom modifier. At Level 5 The Chosen Vassal gains a second spectral arm that holds another sword dealing the same damage as the main hand. The Chosen Vassal is subject to two weapon fighting penalty. At level 7 the spectral arms may combine their blades making a large two handed blade of pure energy dealing 4d8 with a 15ft reach.

Spectral Mastery: Chosen Vassals start off with weapon focus (Spectral Blade) feat.

Spectral Mastery:A Chosen Vassal who uses Dameji begins with two weapon fighting feat

Spectral Defense: At level 3, The Chosen Vassal materializes a flexible spectral rib cage around him connecting to the spectral arms adding his wisdom modifier as armor, applies when flat footed and increases his base speed by +10 per half class level. Every 6 levels after, the AC of spectral defense is increased by 1 and is increased by 2 at level 2. (9,15,21,27,30)

Spectral Crush: Starting at level 5, the chosen vassal may use his spectral arms to grapple an opponent, if the grapple check is successful the spectral arms begin to crush the opponent for 2d8+wis modifier.

Elemental Enhance: Starting at level 7, the chosen vassal may add an element to his spectral blades. Fire deals 1d6 fire damage that lasts for 1d4 rounds. Ice deals 1d4 ice damage and freezes the opponent for 1d3 rounds. Light deals 1d8 light damage and heals the chosen vassal for half the damage. Dark deals 1d8 dark damage and blinds target for 1d2 rounds. Electricity deals 1d6 lightning damage and stuns opponent for 1d4 rounds. Adding an element has a 1d4 round cooldown, the damage is increased by its die every 3 levels (10,13,16,19,21,24,27,30).

Spectral Mastery II: starting at level 9 the chosen vassal gains greater weapon focus (spectral blade) feat.

Spectral Mastery II: starting at level 9 the chosen vassal gains the greater two weapon fighting feat.

Spectral Body: Starting at level 10, the chosen vassal now gains the head skull of the spectral guardian. The Chosen Vassal now gains dark vision for 60 ft and may see through magical darkness. The skull now blocks out all mind altering magic that would effect the chosen vassal.

Spectral Flash: Starting at level 12, The chosen vassal now uses his guardian to charge a total of 50 ft through enemies without providing an attack of opportunity, the chosen vassal may perform a full attack on his way through the 50 ft.

Spectral Body II: Starting at level 14, the chosen vassals spectral guardian starts to gain muscles on it. With the new body the chosen vassal gains his wisdom modifier to all attacks as damage and his wisdom increases by +1 and every 4 levels after (18,22,26,30).

Spectral Flurry: Starting at level 16, the chosen vassal gains two extra attacks at his highest bonus but has a 1d3 round cool down.

Spectral Body III: Starting at level 18, the chosen vassals spectral guardian becomes a shrouded humanoid. With this new form the chosen vassal now gains improved crit rate (18-20) with x3 damage and immune instant death spells.

Han'i:

Spectral Orbs: Starting at level 1, the chosen vassal materializes a large spectral arm holding an orb of pure black energy, the chosen vassal may launch the orb for 2d6 with a 60 ft range. The chosen vassal may materialize more orbs = to three times a day + his wisdom modifier. The damage of the orbs increase by 1d6 every 5 levels (5,10,15,20,25,30). At level 5 han'i grows an additional arm which can use a second orb or a spectral light shield, if using a second orb the chosen vassal is subjected to the two weapon fighting penalty.

Spectral Mastery: Chosen Vassals start off with rapid shot feat.

Spectral Defense: At level 3, The Chosen Vassal materializes a flexible spectral rib cage around him connecting to the spectral arms which allows him to launch his orbs an additional 10 ft per half class level and adding his wisdom modifier as armor, applies when flat footed. Every 6 levels after, the AC of spectral defense is increased by 1 and increased by 2 at level 30. (9,15,21,27,30)

Spectral Repel: Starting at level 5, the chosen vassal uses his spectral arms to crush his orb, it makes a shockwave that deals his orb damage and knocks enemies within 15 ft away for the damage done, has a 1 round cool down.

Elemental Enhance: Starting at level 7, the chosen vassal may add an element to his spectral orbs. Fire deals 1d6 fire damage that lasts for 1d4 rounds. Ice deals 1d4 ice damage and freezes the opponent for 1d3 rounds. Light deals 1d8 light damage and heals the chosen vassal for half the damage. Dark deals 1d8 dark damage and blinds target for 1d2 rounds. Electricity deals 1d6 lightning damage and stuns opponent for 1d4 rounds. Adding an element has a 1d4 round cooldown, the damage is increased by its die every 3 levels (10,13,16,19,21,24,27,30).

Spectral Mastery: Chosen Vassals gains greater weapon focus (Spectral Orbs) feat.

Spectral Mastery: Chosen Vassals gains point blank feat.

Spectral Body: Starting at level 10, the chosen vassal now gains the head skull of the spectral guardian. The Chosen Vassal now gains dark vision for 60 ft and may see through magical darkness. The skull now blocks out all mind altering magic that would effect the chosen vassal.

Spectral Split: Starting at level 12, The chosen vassal now can split his orb into two smaller orbs and launch them at two different targets while using the same BAB but they deal half damage.

Spectral Body II: Starting at level 14, the chosen vassals spectral guardian starts to gain muscles on it. With the new body the chosen vassal gains his wisdom modifier to all attacks as damage and his wisdom increases by +1 and every 4 levels after (18,22,26,30).

Spectral Barrage: Starting at lvl 16, the chosen vassals spectral guardian opens up its rib cage and releases energy needles equal to his level dealing 1d6 each in a 50 ft cone. Has a 1d6 cool down.

Spectral Body III: Starting at level 18, the chosen vassals spectral guardian becomes a shrouded humanoid. With this new form the chosen vassal now gains improved crit rate (18-20) with x3 damage and immune instant death spells.

Gift of the Gods: Starting at level 18, the chosen vassal may clasp his hands together and his guardian does the same. The chosen vassal makes a concentration check. If successful a massive meteor falls from the heavens. All foes within 50 feet of where the meteor is targeted must make a reflex save equal to the chosen vassals concentration check + his wisdom modifier to avoid the meteor. If they fail they are instantly killed by the sheer weight. Can be used at 100 ft away, This skill can only be used once a day + half of wisdom modifier rounded down.

Ex-Chosen Vassals[edit]

If the chosen vassal forsakes his deity or changes his alignment to anything other than what his deity is, he then loses all of his chosen vassal skills until he atones.

Epic Bōei:

Spectral Body IV: The Chosen Vassals spectral guardian now grows armored equal to full plate and may now walk on two legs. the chosen vassal is then embedded in the chest of the spectral guardian.

Spectral Embodiment III: The chosen vassal no longer loses consciousness at the end of spectral embodiment but is fatigued and must take 1d4 rounds to regain composure.

Final Form: The chosen vassals spectral guardian is now a massive (huge size category) humanoid in full plate. Is now able to use roar and element enhance with no cool down.

Epic Damēji:

Spectral Embodiment II: At the end of spectral embodiment the chosen vassal is now only unconscious for 24 hours.

Spectral Body IV: The Chosen Vassals spectral guardian is now able to grow four arms instead of two, each arm may wield a blade and is now not affect by the two weapon fighting penalty and may now walk on two legs. the chosen vassal is then embedded in the chest of the spectral guardian.

Spectral Embodiment III: The chosen vassal no longer loses consciousness at the end of spectral embodiment but is fatigued and must take 1d4 rounds to regain composure.

Final Form: The chosen vassals spectral guardian is now a massive (huge size category). Spectral swords are treated as huge size (long sword) rather than medium.

Epic Han'i:

Spectral Embodiment II: At the end of spectral embodiment the chosen vassal is now only unconscious for 24 hours.

Spectral Body IV: The Chosen Vassals spectral guardian is now able to grow four arms instead of two, each arm may wield an orb in each hand and may now walk on two legs. the chosen vassal is then embedded in the chest of the spectral guardian.

Spectral Embodiment III: The chosen vassal no longer loses consciousness at the end of spectral embodiment but is fatigued and must take 1d4 rounds to regain composure.

Final Form: The chosen vassals spectral guardian is now a massive (huge size category). The Chosen vassel may now use gift of the gods any amount per day but now gains a 1d10 cool down.


Bonus Feats: The epic chosen vassal gains a bonus feat (selected from the list of epic fighter bonus feats) every 1 levels after 20th.

Human Chosen Vassal Starting Package[edit]

Weapons: None.

Skill Selection: Pick a number of skills equal to 4 + Int modifier.


Feat: Improved Initiative.

Bonus Feats: Cleave

Gear: Studded leather armor, rations for 3 days, bed roll, lantern.

Gold: 150 .

Campaign Information[edit]

Playing a Chosen Vassal[edit]

Religion: Chosen Vassals are selected by a deity to be his vassal so any religion is suited for a Vassal.

Other Classes: Chosen Vassals interact well with anyone that is of the same alignment as they are.

Combat: Chosen Vassals are any type of fighter, depends on your guardian.

Advancement: Chosen Vassals tend not to stray away from the divine path, they may take up levels in paladin or cleric.

Chosen Vassals in the World[edit]

Where characters of this class fit in a d20 world.

Daily Life: Chosen Vassals spend their days carrying out the will of their deity, they became a vassal for this specific reason. Wether its killing his enemies or praying, they are always honoring their deity in some way.


Organizations: There is no set organization for Chosen Vassals, but on more than one occasion Chosen Vassals of the same alignment will pair up to take down their deities enemies.

NPC Reactions: NPCs don't tend to see the Vassal in action so to them the vassal just looks like a normal person, if they were to see his powers they would undoubtedly be frightened.

Characters with ranks in Knowledge Religion skill can research Chosen Vassal to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.
