Bladestorm Weapon Thrower (3.5e Optimized Character Build)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Introduction[edit]

A master weapon thrower with the extraordinary ability to ricochet his weapons off of multiple opponents and make thrown-weapon full attacks. There are a few ways to modify this design. Having a preference for sneaky characters, I used the Rogue Build (Rogue 10/Master Thrower 5/Bloodstorm Blade 5). However, I would also recommend the Warblade build (Warblade 15/Bloodstorm Blade 10/Master Thrower 5). It'll give you some extra beef.

Highlights[edit]

At the end of the day, this class will allow you to fire off 10 (20 if dual wielding) shots per round, each dealing an additional +5d6 sneak attack and 2 STR damage with double the weapons crit threat and an increased critical multiplier to the enemies touch AC. You may also Bloodwind Ricochet your thrown weapons and attack multiple foes.

Has an enemy made it through the storm of whirling blades and managed to get into threatening range? No problem. Activate the many dancing daggers you have hidden on your person to defend you and expand your storm of steel!

Side Notes[edit]

This class is not absolutely limited to daggers; it works with any thrown weapon. When you reach Bloodstorm Blade, you can even spend some time switching your weapon focus/specialization to another thrown weapon! And at the DM's discretion, you might be able to get away with using the Throw Anything feat as a reason to use non-conventional weapons with your throwing tricks! the addition of martial throw, and brutal throw will also potentially allow you to treat thrown attacks as melee thus using str instead of dex while also allowing you to apply 1.5x str bonus to damage with thrown weapons. this can also be further increased.

Limitations[edit]

While this build gets a great hitpoint boost from the Bloodstorm Blade's d12's and the Master Thrower's d8's, the class is very susceptible to spellcasters due to low Will saves. You're party won't be very happy if a Wizard dominates your character and has him turn on the group. Anti-magic can also be a pain in the butt, disabling the additional defense provided to you by your dancing daggers, in addition dropping your range by half.

DM Counters[edit]

Undead, Plants, Elementals, Constructs. The conventional counters to a rogue's sneak attack shut down this class's sustained single target damage by quite a bit. Encounters involving long-range combatants will also be more challenging for this character as thrown weapons have a much smaller range increment.
