Acheti (Primal Bestan)[edit]

The most populous race on the New World. Whenever someone mentions Bestan they are usually referring to the Acheti, or primal Bestan. The Acheti are the most common of the Bestan races and make up the majority of the Bestan tribes. Though they do share some traits in common with each other, they are also surprisingly diverse. They often surprise those who attempt to generalize them.

Physical Description[edit]

Acheti are large humanoids with a bestial appearance. Although individuals vary greatly, most are large and stocky with short fur over their arms, legs, chest, and back. They generally have pronounced canine teeth and larger eyes than most old world races. Minor features vary more widely by tribe, with some tribes possessing longer or shorter hair, claws, and even horns or tails.

Society[edit]

Acheti society does not differentiate between humanoids and any other animal. They believe that in nature society sees a reflection of itself and that society should be modeled after nature. As the animals move around to suit their needs so to do Acheti settlements tend to be temporary and capable of being moved around if the hunting in one area becomes scarce. Similarly, as the animals take only what they need and use all of what they take the Acheti also strive for such efficiency. What outsiders must remember is that while the Acheti are primal they are not primitive or stupid, nor do they arbitrarily deny new technology. They are commonly skilled in magic, though magic-using Acheti tend to be druids or clerics more often than wizards or sorcerers, and some Acheti tribes have even taken to using firearms obtained from old-worlders.

Relations[edit]

Acheti bear a mutual dislike of the civilized Onamin. The Acheti believe the Onamin to be oppressive and see their use of arcane magic as a blasphemous attempt to prove their superiority to nature. Onamin, on the other hand, see Acheti as primitive and backwards, denying order and giving worship to something less than themselves. Acheti similarly dislike the brutal Nesran, as they have lost many of their own to the Nesran tribe’s raids. Acheti judge old-worlders on an individual basis, but generally tend to think of them as outsiders who are better off returning to whence they came.

Alignment and Religion[edit]

Acheti believe people deserve the right to choose their own path, so long as it does not interfere with their ability to contribute to society. Most Acheti are neutral, though they tend more toward chaos than law, and more toward good than evil. The Acheti religion, as with other aspects of their culture, is nature-based. They believe in a primal entity, a spirit, which flows through the land and gives life to all things. Acheti clerics almost always revere this spirit, and have access to the Animal, Community, Plant, and Weather domains. The primal spirit’s favored weapon is the sickle.

Adventurers[edit]

Acheti tribes are very close and rarely does an Acheti seek to go on adventures alone. The primary exception to this is an Acheti on his totem quest. When a male (or sometimes a female, depending on the tribe's customs) comes of age, they are sent into the wilderness and tasked with surviving alone for one full year. During this time, they often go on adventures, sometimes with members of other races.
