Fire and smoke surround you as you swing your sword and land a mighty blow upon the dragon's head. The great creature crashes to the ground with a thud.

The treasure lies only a short distance past the dragon's body. Your eyes gleam. Riches beyond your wildest dreams await you. You race forward to claim your prize, heart pounding in anticipation. From nowhere a huge man dressed in black armor steps out in front of you, blocking your way. The treasure is no more than an arm's reach behind him.

"None shall pass!" he warns.

After the success of the basic revision of the OD&D rules, TSR hired Tom Moldvay to write a standalone version of that document. The cover featured art by Erol Otus, (And Otus-Art is one of the names for this publication) and the game was distributed in a magenta (pink) box. This independent game was intended to encourage players of the original game system to switch to the upcoming new version, AD&D. Later, this book would be revised as Basic Set (BECMI D&D) by Frank Mentzer.

Includes B2 The Keep on the Borderlands (Basic D&D).
