Ace's Assassin League (Campaign Seed)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This assassin's league was built a long time ago, made to protect the world from magic that would end it. Every member as a job to do, from killer to scientist and each member is perfectly equipped for their given job. The Ace heads up the entire League and is the person who gets all the information before passing it along.

Shadow Killers[edit]

Ace's Assassin League is a group of, as it sounds, assassins that tend to fight in squads or groups of 6. They are trained to jump from the shadows and attack with no regard for any form of honor, yet they do not kill if they do not need to. They are typically dark elves, but other creatures have joined the League such as black dragonborn, lizardfolk, and earth elementals. Even though the League has no qualms about bringing in many different races and creatures, they will not recruit. They either induct family members of existing members in the League or when a creature finds them and asks to join. Otherwise, the ones who find the League die. When League members come together, they either complete an assignment that they were given or simply stay together for a few days and then return to their cities and homes. Anyone could be one of these assassins, planted in a city, town or village, waiting for their target to arrive.

Ace[edit]

You'll always be able to spot the Ace as she'll be the only one wearing robes with color besides black or gray. The Ace is the leader of the group and always a woman. This matriarchy is always led by the eldest daughter of the Ace and if there is no daughter to take up the mantle then the Ace's family steps down and another family takes its place after several tests for the mother in those families. The reason for this is that a mother typically has more of a protective stance on many things. The Ace is always asked to look at the League as her children which keeps her from making decisions that would kill one of the members. Instead, she is instructed to make smart strategies, pick high-profile targets instead of go for the little guys, even discern if assisting in local law enforcement is a good idea or not. There has not been a single Ace who has been removed from her seat in the League because of a decision she made.

Troops[edit]

While many of the League are assassins, they are different kinds of assassin. Some with magic, others with large weapons, others more who take the ranged killer path. These different types make strategizing all the harder as the Ace tries to compensate for all these types, pairing spellcasters with more ninja types. There are 3 main types of assassin, however these types hold an infinite amount of small types.

Spellcasters[edit]

Many of the assassins in the League have some form of magic at their disposal. They know how to control the mystics in the world or the mystics control them. They either use chaos magic or are very ordered, in need of a focus or using some form of freeform magic. They do the jobs that normal assassins cannot, luring a target into an alleyway without showing their faces or burning down a house with the target inside it without striking a match. Most say that this type of assassin is the most feared and most powerful of them all.

Destroyers[edit]

Destroyers are powerful attackers that cannot be controlled. They attack from the shadows and obliterate the enemy, either cutting them into tiny pieces or casting a spell to completely destroy them. They don't mind getting their hands dirty, in fact they revel in it, finding the messiest way to kill their enemies, and the flashiest way. They're the ones that make the news as being some kind of killer that kills for fun. They don't. They kill out of necessity.

Ninjas[edit]

Finally, the most common type of assassin in the League. The ninjas are like the infantry. They are trained to attack from the shadows and they all have different skills, but are more or less armed the same. In the battlefield, they wear no armor, simply a black robe and mask, they carry a shortsword and a few daggers, maybe a blowgun, and are typically given a length of rope for certain escapes or silent takedowns. These members of the League are always accompanied by 5 or more other ninjas while the other 2 types may have 1 or 2 others of either type to accompany them. Destroyers and spellcasters prefer to have partners in battle that are their type, but they will not argue with their Ace.

Bases[edit]

As a rule, the League doesn't gather more than 9 or 10 members in the same place at once, unless it is in one of their bases. There are 7 bases in the Material Realm, Each one in a very different place in the world. These bases could hold hundreds of members at any given time and are highly protected. If anyone were to try and attack one of these bases, the assassins would vanish and kill every attacker with brutal efficiency. There are stories of hunters vanishing in the woods that are used to prove the ideas of mysterious monsters in the woods, but many of them had simply stumbled onto a base for a League of killers and didn't live to tell the tale.
