Absorb Energy
3rd-level Abjuration
Casting time: 1 reaction, which you take when you take any damage from another creature.
Range: Self
Components: S
Duration: 1 round

This spell absorbs anything harmful thrown at you, and stores that energy into your weapon. You have resistance to all damage until the start of your next turn. Additionally, choose a damage type that you've absorbed. The first time you hit with a melee attack on your turn, your weapon deals an additional 2d10 damage of the chosen damage type, and the spell ends.

For example: You are bitten by an Ancient Red Dragon and take 24 points of piercing damage and 16 points of fire damage. If you use this spell to reduce the damage, you instead take 12 points of piercing damage and 8 points of fire damage. Before the start of your next turn, a lich casts blight on you and deals 36 points of necrotic damage. That damage is reduced to 18 points of necrotic damage. Then, the next melee weapon attack on your turn deals your choice of an additional 2d10 fire damage, an additional 2d10 weapon damage, or an additional 2d10 necrotic damage, since those were the damage types you were exposed to for the duration of this spell.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the extra damage increases by 1d10 for each slot level above 3rd.
