Talk:Cyk'n (5e Race)

This is nicely done trait wise. Nice job! However, there are some issues I've noticed.
1. A race shouldn't have this much choice in its ability scores so "Your Dexterity, Intelligence, OR Charisma score increases by 2. Choose one." should be one or the other rather than both.
2. Resistance to the two most common magical damage types and the hp increase makes them pretty strong defensively, I'd recommend you remove one or the other since combined with the other stuff this race gets some neat features.
3. In general, you should try to give individual subraces like the scorch interesting traits rather than something boring like an addition ASI.
4. I don't think a natural poison's strength or potency should scale or a races Wisdom score, this should be changed to Consistition really.

Thanks! I'll try to address these;

1. Half-elves get a +1 to any two scores of their choice, so this much choice isn't unprecedented.

2. That's fair, I'll probably remove the HP boost.

3. I agree in general, but that's kind of the point of Scorch. If you want to be a fighter with interesting features, you can use Slate. I wouldn't be opposed to changing it to match the format of the other subraces, but I'm not sure what to use as a feature. Maybe I could transfer the HP boost to Scorch and reduce the Strength ASI to 1?

4. That makes sense, I'll change that.

I've cleaned the rest up. Should be good to go though an image would be nice. --ConcealedLightThis user is an administrator (talk) 08:37, 21 April 2018 (MDT)
Thanks for your help! I'll see if I can get an image. --AngelsAndAarakocra (talk) 08:48, 21 April 2018 (MDT)

How about +1 to two of those three scores? That would preserve the total ASI and overall versatility options. --AngelsAndAarakocra (talk) 11:21, 21 April 2018 (MDT)

Everyone loves a bit of con so I have them two and you can pick a subrace to get a bump in your primary stat. --ConcealedLightThis user is an administrator (talk) 11:32, 21 April 2018 (MDT)
I'd prefer if it stayed the same, since there's nothing inherently unbalanced about +1 to two of three ability scores. Unless you think there is? --AngelsAndAarakocra (talk) 13:07, 21 April 2018 (MDT)
However, a choice of two stats is a bit much I feel and also, breaks from president. The +2 to con on the base race is meant to represent how the race needed to be significantly more robust then most to survive the demon opression as well as the harsh envrionment of the planes various layers. On the topic of the lore you should read the lore presented in the DMG about the adverse affects that non evil creatures face while in the Abyss. In addition, a specific layer where they existed would be good since you can't find everykind of demon on every layer and the diverse environment of each layer makes hard to beleive such a comaparatively weak race(when compared to demons) survived in the lowest layers. There are also instances where prolonged exosure to the Lower Planes has causes creatures to change such as with the creation of night hags. How did this race survive and remain the way they are despite this? Just somethings to think about. --ConcealedLightThis user is an administrator (talk) 13:31, 21 April 2018 (MDT)
