Talk:The cloaked (5e Race)

Thoughts[edit]

Don't worry about the page being incomplete, you're in no rush at all. The WIP is good for 3ish+ months without any edits, and beyond that you have generally over a year to fix any issues.

  • Language: you can still have an element of 'deciphering unnatural speech'. You could make it something like "Due to your the unnatural speech patterns, those unfamiliar with your race must pass a DC 15 Perception check (hearing) in order to understand you. This may be overcome by speaking with a creature during a short rest." This way, you still have the flavor being difficult to understand to outsiders, but members within the party can converse with you as normal without needing to pass a check every time they want to talk to you. DC 15 is moderate so it doesn't seem that bad, but plenty of NPCs will fail, leading to the feeling that this race is mysterious and otherworldly. Play around with it if you want this to be an aspect of the race.
  • Speed: Walking on water is really cool, but it should be limited to "while at or below carrying capacity" or less.
  • Negative ability scores are not an aspect of 5e DnD.
  • Perfect Mind: Advantage against several conditions. Elves, and halflings have advantage on saving throws against 1 condition. This page is the source, so "etc." shouldn't be used.
  • Telekinetic Mind: You can allow your race to have a cantrip. High Elves as well as tieflings both do so. It doesn't have to be "similar to" mage hand; it can be mage hand.
  • Semi-Physical: The 5e Race Design Guide#<Race Name> Traits has a subsection on resistance and immunity.
  • Burning Light: Not being able to play in direct sunlight because of disadvantage on attack rolls and perception checks (ala Drow) is uncomfortable, but taking damage every 6 seconds is very brutal, and likely unfun.

Other than that, just expand on the sections to illustrate for perspective players the feeling of the race. Coaldstone (talk) 20:54, 9 December 2022 (MST)
