Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: Move Change Shape to a level 2 racial utility power. Modify Trance attack to be an encounter power. Change Wild Speech to read "You can communicate with natural and fey canines." Powers should never change ability scores. Natural attacks are useless without an enchantment bonus at later levels. In general Change Shape seems unnecessarily complicated.

Seishin Kitsune[edit]

A fox spirit magically fused to a human.

Racial Traits
Average Height: 5'4" - 6'
Average Weight: 120 - 200 lbs.
Ability Scores: +2 to one ability score of your choice
Size: medium
Speed: 6 squares
Vision: Normal
Languages: Common, choice of one other
Human Heritage: You can take feats that have human as a prerequisite (as well as those specifically for Seishin Kitsune), as long as you meet any other requirements.
Bonus Feat: You gain a bonus feat at 1st level. You must meet the feat’s prerequisites.
Fey Origin: Though not technically a native of the Feywild, your fox spirit links you to that plane. You are considered a fey creature for the purposes of effects that relate to creature origin.
Wild Speech: Your animal spirit lets you understand all canines, both mundane and supernatural, and make them understand you as well. How much they can talk depends on their intelligence, and their willingness to talk depends on your persuasive power.
Change Shape: You can use Change Shape as an at-will power.
Trance Attack: Instead of the 1st level daily power from your class, you gain the Trance Attack power.

You can alter your form between a foxy human and a cunning fox.

Effect: You can alter your physical form to take on the appearance of a human, a fox-human hybrid, or a fox (see Change Shape, Monster Manual page 280). If you die you return to your human form. In hybrid form you gain
  •  a +2 bonus to Dexterity (if you have already chosen DEX bonus you gain a +2 bonus to strength instead)
  •  Low-light vision
  •  a +2 bonus to Perception
  •  a Bite attack (see below).

In fox form you gain all the bonuses of your hybrid form as well as a +2 bonus to stealth, but become small and are limited to actions that don’t require opposable thumbs. Your bite attack also causes less damage.

Special: You may change only part of your body if you make a WIS check against DC 10. At the start of any encounter make a WIS check against DC 8 or accidentally change some small part of your body (random or GM’s choice, usually tail, ears , hands or feet).

Your clothing and equipment is unaffected when you change between human and hybrid. In fox form your equipment becomes part of your body, but you drop anything you are holding. You continue to gain the benefits of the equipment you wear.

Seishin Kitsune are a merging of a fox-spirit with a human, usually done by a minor deity or powerful mage for some hidden reason. As such they are mostly human, the fox mentality suppressed until they've grown in power. The only powers granted them is the ability to change between human and fox, and some random magic.

Being mostly human Seishin Kitsune can be - and usually are - just like other humans, though often a bit paranoid about keeping their "affliction" secret.

Physical Qualities[edit]

Normally just like a human. In hybrid form height and weight can be a little higher, in fox form length is 2-3' and weight about 20 lbs.

Playing a Seishin Kitsune[edit]

Completely campaign-dependent. Since Seishin Kitsune are created for some reason how to play them is completely dependent on how, why and where the character in question exists.

Seishin Kitsune Adventurers[edit]

Three sample Seishin Kitsune adventurers are described below.

Rufina of Dolszet (really Felicia of Eltiua) is a young noblewoman, a fugetive from a feud that killed her family. She lives under an assumed name with some distant relatives, working on getting the resources to she needs to get back at the people that killed her family. She hides her foxy side from all but her closest friends.

Rufina was "gifted" by the god of her nation as a backup weapon for a coming "war of the gods". The god has primed her to act as a dimensional portal that will throw his enemies out of the world when triggered.
