Wondrous Item, very rare (requires attunement by a creature with spellcasting)

Also known as a miniature eight-trigrams furnace, or miniature element furnace. This strange magical, handheld furnace has a housing made of an octagonal, hollowed block of wood, with complex iron components hidden inside. By feeding raw magical energy into this device, the magic will become amplified through the inner workings.

Charges. This elemental furnace has 8 charges. While attuned to this elemental furnace, when you cast a spell of 1st level or higher, as part of the action used to cast the spell, you can spend one charge to increase the level the spell is being cast at to be one higher than the level of the spell slot being used. When you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the spell's cast level is not increased, and the mechanisms inside the casing break due to rusting; at this point, the elemental furnace no longer regains any charges, and loses all magical properties. The elemental furnace recovers 1d4+1 charges daily at dawn.
