Dragonborn in Grisaire (Grisaire Supplement)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Dragonborn are one of the most populous and diverse groups in Grisaire. Below, you will find different types of dragonborn and their mechanical race blocks, if provided.

A small minority of dragonborn are present on Endix, like in Aerzale. Ongana had done so with permissions from Tarekaya to observe the differences that would develop between the west and east dragonborn. Endixians are often surprised at the large physical differences in appearance between the two.

All dragonborn ancestry more or less follows the same table, but with different columns depending on if they get a breath or spell:

Draconic Ancestry
Dragon Damage Type Breath Weapon Dragon Spell (Lozorian Dragonborn only)
Black Acid 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) acid splash
Blue Lightning 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) shocking grasp
Brass Fire 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) create bonfire
Bronze Lightning 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) lightning lure
Copper Acid 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) primal savagery
Gold Fire 15 ft. cone (Dex. save) control flames
Green Poison 15 ft. cone (Con. save) poison spray
Red Fire 15 ft. cone (Dex. save) fire bolt
Silver Cold 15 ft. cone (Con. save) ray of frost
White Cold 15 ft. cone (Con. save) chill touch

In Lozor[edit]

Dragonborn are the most prominent in the Lozor population. They claim direct creation from dragon deity Tarekaya, a primary patron of the island nation. Dragons in general are a huge part of Lozorian culture, being integrated into many motifs and symbols that decorate the country. Lozorian dragonborn notably are naturally veil-touched. They can use magic that matches their scale color, instead of having a breath weapon. They are well-known for being excellent scholars in the arcane academics and have a strong culture built around merit and fidelity.

Dimorphism[edit]

Lozorian dragonborn are very unique in that they have evolved a strong dimorphism between males and females that is not present in other dragonborn. Male Lozorian dragonborn sport horns like deer antlers and grow thick beards that frame their heads. The same fur lines their backs and pits. Their statues are more stocky. Female Lozorian dragonborn have longer necks and flexible build. As a result, they can often be taller than male counterparts. However, they do not grow horns, usually instead growing very long, scaly eyebrows that extrude off their faces. Female Lozorian dragonborn also can grow beards, but the hairs of these beards tend to feel more like feathers than fur. Their faces are also more pointed than that of males, sometimes appearing a bit like a beak. They also have a unique organ allowing them to make a certain trilling noise. The basis of certain secret codes in Lozorian dragonborn families, particularly those with governmental ties, is partially based off this noise, and so female Lozorian dragonborn were often employed in intelligence operations.

Culture[edit]

They live in clans that have since largely consolidated on Lozor, forming the central Council of Dragons. This council includes tribal envoys and high-ranking officials in the central Silver Court. Fringe clans still exist who either live isolated from society or with the ideals of being individually governed.

In Doru Islands[edit]

A small population of dragonborn made their homes along the eastern Doru Islands, being diasporic from Lozor. Today, they make up a few tribes that exist on the islands today and are well known for strong bonds to tribal tradition and clan pride. These dragonborn trace their heritage to that of the Tremulous Age, presumably after Emperor Sukan had united Lozor. Doru Island dragonborn notable developed different physical features that reflect their adaptation to the island's environments and aquatic lifestyle. They are also skilled navigators of the water channels that form natural sort of highways threading through the island archipelago. Their split from Lozor has affected their biology sufficiently over the years. They have lost their ability to cast dragon spells, but developed a breath organ like that of Endixian dragonborn. Doru dragonborn are also one of the few dragonborn varieties that have tails. They have also developed harder scales that traded off their natural elemental resistance.

Dimorphism[edit]

Like Lozorian dragonborn, Doru dragonborn also have distinct dimorphism. Male Doru dragonborn are notably almost hairless, save for sparse beard hairs. They have short snouts with beaked lips and a prominent horn that protrudes from their forehead. They are notably stockier, with thicker limbs and a body closer set to the ground. The thick scales on their back form almost a shell-like pattern. Female Doru dragonborn grow hair along their bodies and kept the longer neck and limbs of their Lozorian roots. Their snouts are not beak-like, however, though they are longer than that of males. They also do sport a horn, but it is notably smaller. The hairs a male Doru dragonborn grow are also very thick and have a scratchy texture compared to the female hairs, which are softer and flowy.
