Using AI to Make Adventures (5e Sourcebook)/Races

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

I asked Playground to create D&D player races for me, and it must be trained on D&D material, because it gave me very convincing results for a Kender and Satyr race.

Curiously, these were also formatted like raw Homebrewery text. As such, I am not posting those results in case they are close copies of existing works.

For the next test, I specified a made-up name ("Selenemtens") with "themes of elegance, grace and fantasy." Here's the result.

Selenemtens Race[edit]

Selenemtens are a race of humanoid creatures, with large, insect-like wings, small horns, and varying skin colors.

They have a high sense of self-esteem, and do not like to be ignored or betrayed.

They have good dexterity, beauty, and a taste for music.

Size. Selenemtens are generally medium-sized creatures, ranging from 5 to 6 feet tall. They usually have a slim body, with a thin waist and an athletic figure.

Personality. Selenemtens are generally good-natured and kind creatures, but they can be easily angered if they are ignored, or betrayed. They are very intelligent, and possess a high sense of self-esteem.

Selenemten Features[edit]

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 2. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.

Age. Selenemtens reach adulthood at age 20 and live up to 200 years.

Alignment. Selenemtens are generally good, but they can be either good or evil.

Size. Selenemtens are medium-sized creatures, around 6 feet tall.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet. You have a flying speed of 40 feet.

Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Senses. You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight, hearing, or smell.

Fey Ancestry. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put you to sleep.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, and one extra language of your choice.

Selenemten Subrace. Selenemtens have two subraces - Selenem and Emten.

Selenem[edit]

Selenem are the most powerful of the selenemtens.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by an additional 1.

Divine Sense. As an action, you can open your awareness to detect nearby creatures. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any celestial, fey, or fiend within 60 feet of you that is not behind total cover. You know the type (celestial, fiend, or fey) of any being whose presence you sense, but not its identity (the Night Hag, for instance). Within the same radius, you also detect the presence of any place or object that has been consecrated or desecrated, as with the hallow spell. You can use this feature a number of times equal to 1 + your Charisma modifier. When you finish a long rest, you regain all expended uses.

Emten[edit]

Emten are the most graceful of the selenemtens.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by an additional 1.

Light Step. You have advantage on Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks to avoid nonmagical traps.

Unarmored Movement. During your turn, if you only move, you can move an additional 10 feet.

Evaluation[edit]

Clearly D&D material is in Playground's training data, as we have some precise language and mechanics (although the balance is a little off).

The results are a little... boring... and this may be a case of garbage in/garbage out. If many homebrew races in the training data are generic, novel racial features may be a rarity. This could potentially be countered with more detailed prompts and instructions, and raising the Temperature slider, and the risk of losing coherence, formatting and D&D mechanics.

Here's another result, I asked for a robotic race from the future (again I came up with the name), to try and get away from standard medieval fantasy tropes.

Beepboop[edit]

Beepboops are a sentient, robotic species originally from the future. They have an affinity for building, science, and technology.

Physical Description. Beepboops are humanoid in shape and stand typically between 4-5 feet tall. While they are humanoid in shape they do not have heads, but instead have a glowing, circular screen that displays their face and is located where a human's neck would be located. Beepboops can create and display any face they choose by manipulating the screen. They have two arms, two legs, and a torso. They do not have fingers or toes, but instead have metal claws that can grab things.

History. Beepboops are an ancient species originating from a planet named "Data" in the year 9999 AD. Data is home to a myriad of sentient robots who inhabited the planet long before the time of the Beepboops. The planet is technologically advanced and still inhabited by the other robots, but the Beepboops have left the planet.

When the first Beepboop was created, it traveled back in time to the year 6787 BC, where it impacted with a meteor which created the asteroid belt. This robot's primary system was damaged in the impact, but it sent out a signal to other robots, who came back to the past to collect this robot and bring it back to the Beepboop.

There are currently only two Beepboop on planet Earth.

Society. The Beepboops do not have a society on Earth because there is only two of them. They interact with the human race and are peaceful. They are affiliated with the human's technological advances by providing information to the humans, which they gained by traveling back in time because they are technologically advanced in the future.

Racial Features[edit]

Your Beepboop character has the following traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 2.

Age. Beepboops do not age. They have no maximum age.

Alignment. Beepboops are usually neutral.

Size. Beepboops are usually between 4 and 5 feet tall and weigh roughly between100-130 lbs. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
