Lord of the Rings[edit]

Introduction[edit]

This is The Lord of the Rings D&D, an unofficial supplement for the D&D game. Inside are the rules for role- playing in the greatest fantasy world of all time!

Adventures[edit]

Unlike in the core D&D game, you fight as mighty heroes battling orcs and goblins in the war of the ring, or the war of the jewels. You can be a mighty Elven Lord, or a Dwarven king who battles Dragons, or a Númanorian fighter, who battles Sauron in the 2nd age.

What you need[edit]

You will need The Player’s Handbook (DM’s also need the Dungeon Master’s Guide) and a full set of dice (a D20, a D12, a D10, a D8, 1-4D6s a D4 and a percentile Die).

You may also like to use figures, but keep them themed to the Lord of the Rings. A battle grid is necessary if you use miniatures, and a tape measure is useful.

The Rules[edit]

You should only use the rules from only the player’s handbook and the Dungeon Master’s Guide, although the DM can choose other books to include (except rules for monsters). If rules in this book contradict rules in either of those two publications, use the rules in this book. You should disregard the following chapters in both books, as they are replaced by rules in this book better suited to The Lord of the Rings;

  1. The Player’s Handbook
    • Races
    • Feats[1]
    • Description
    • Equipment[2]
    • Magic
    • Spells[3]
  2. The Dungeon Master’s Guide
    • Adventures
    • Nonplayer Characters
    • Characters
    • Campaigns
    • Magic Items[4]

Also, spells no longer have spell components. Those with expensive material components instead cost that amount in Xp, or (1 Xp for silver pennies or less).

Notes[edit]

  1. If Feats do not contain rules in this book, the rules are in the Player’s Handbook. All texts under this heading are subject to the open game licence V1.0a, with the exceptions of texts in green or under subheadings in green.
  2. All tables (and their footnotes) are subject to the Open Game Licence V1.0a. The rules for all weapons, equipment, armour or shields are in chapter 7 of the Player’s Handbook, with the exception of the cost headings in the races of darkness equipment, and the row “goblin climbing spines”.
  3. The spell lists are in this book. Use the rules for spells from the Player’s Handbook, though new spells and spell revisions are in this book.
  4. If a special rule is not explained, then it is in the Dungeon Master’s Guide.
