Investigation[edit]

This page was tagged with {{needsadmin}} on the basis of copyright violation. The page is not an exact copy; as such, I will be comparing the official Mystic class with this one as I am unsure whether a sufficient portion of it has been copied to warrant deletion.

  • Under the top-level header labeled "The Mystic", the fluff text underneath it appears to be completely original.
  • The portion directly under the next header labeled "The Mystic" is copy-pasted from the first Unearthed Arcana article featuring the Mystic class.
  • The first half or so of the first paragraph under the "Creating a Mystic" header is also copy-pasted from the first Mystic UA, but the second half of that paragraph as well as the second paragraph under that header appear to be completely original.
  • The quick build is different from the one in Mystic V3 (the only UA to have one): Both quick builds recommend Intelligence as the primary attribute and the Hermit background, but this one recommends Strength and Wisdom as secondary attributes while the UA one recommends Dexterity or Constitution. Additionally, the UA quick build does not make any recommendations for talents or disciplines.
  • Same size hit die, but that's hardly surprising.
  • This class grants proficiency in light and medium armor and shields. Both the Mystic V1 and V2 grant light and medium armor proficiency, while V3 grants only light armor. No official version of the Mystic grants shield proficiency.
  • Same weapon and saving throw proficiencies.
  • Different skill proficiencies; all official versions of the Mystic grant two skill proficiencies as opposed to this page's three, and they do not offer proficiency with Animal Handling, Deception, or Investigation.
  • Different starting equipment.
  • This class and the official versions use different progressions for talents, disciplines, psi points, and the psi limit.
  • The Psionics class feature: The "Psionic Talents" subheader appears copypasted from UA, while the rest of that class feature appears similar but far from identical.
  • This class' Mystical Recovery feature appears identical to the V3 official class' feature of the same name, as do the Telepathy and Strength of Mind features.
  • Ability score increases at the same levels, but again, this is hardly surprising.
  • The first portion of this class' Mind's Edge feature is identical to the V3 official class' Potent Psionics feature.
  • Consumptive Power is identical.
  • Both this class and the official class have a feature named Psionic Mastery, though they are mechanically different.
  • Psionic Body is identical.
  • The bonus disciplines of each subclass allow you to choose any disciplines, rather than restricting these bonus disciplines to one order as the official class does.
  • Martial Order is wholly original.
  • Avatar of Battle is identical.
  • Avatar of Healing is identical.
  • Avatar of Speed is similar but not identical.
  • Awakened Expertise is similar but not identical to the official V2 class' feature of the same name and the V3 class' Awakened Talent.
  • Psionic Investigation appears identical.
  • Psychic Surge appears identical.
  • Spectral Form appears identical.
  • Durable Flesh is identical to the official class' Immortal Durability.
  • Psionic Resilience is identical.
  • Surge of Health is identical.
  • Immortal Will is identical.
  • Breadth of Knowledge is identical.
  • Memory of One Thousand Steps is identical.
  • Superior Teleportation is identical.
  • Effortless Journey is identical.
  • Battle Ready is wholly original.
  • Soul Knife is identical.
  • Hone the Blade has an extended table, but is otherwise identical.
  • Consumptive Knife is identical.
  • Phantom Knife is identical.
  • Hermit's Studies is identical except for the name (the official one is Hermit's Study).
  • Elemental Attunement is identical.
  • Arcane Dabbler "
  • Elemental Mastery "
  • All psionic disciplines have a "Mastery" feature which is not a mechanic the official class uses.
  • Adaptive Body's "Environmental Adaptation" function is similar but not identical to the official version; the rest of that discipline appears identical.
  • The Aerokinesis discipline appears identical to the Mastery of Air discipline from the official class.

You know what, I'm going to stop here. This is far from identical to the original class but as evidenced by the huge list above of "_________ is identical" there clearly isn't enough original content here to warrant keeping the page, so I'm going to go ahead and delete it. I'll leave this here for a couple days in case anyone feels like disputing this. — Geodude Chatmod.png (talk | contribs | email)‎‎ . . 16:05, 1 June 2018 (MDT)

While I definitely agree that there is vast similarity between this and the published UA, the main draw I had for this page was the diversification of it's Disciplines. ie: Splitting Wood and Earth into two different disciplines, more specific interaction paths that you could take, and creating an essentially weightless area. I you decide to maintain the deletion of this page, might I suggest a page where you could dump the non-standard disciplines into, much like the Warlock Invocations page?
