Talk:Echidna (5e Creature)
From D&D Wiki
Built this to be one of the great boss monsters in a campaign or universe. Did I succeed? Are there vulnerabilities I didn't consider? Did I calculate the CR correctly? Arquebus (talk) 14:53, 20 July 2020 (MDT)
- This is a very good monster overall, but there are a few things I would like to bring up:
- Firstly what is the lunge? Why is it in movement? I would change that up to be more like the pounce trait in big cats. See that here.
- Second, the Fire Breath should be listed under actions. That is unless it can be done as a bonus action, but that may affect the CR. Also, what does this mean: "An echidna's body is not designed to breathe fire like an ancient red dragon's, so even though it breathes more fire, it does so with less intensity and less often."?
- Third, the idea of making her a warlock patron is interesting, but what subclass would her warlocks qualify as? I ask because if a DM decides to have some of her warlocks in the fight, the subclass they are would affect that.
- Forth, the 'Aquatic' trait is cool but there's some superfluous stuff in there. The only relevant information is "An echidna may live in either water and air without suffocation," which is just the Amphibious trait in other monsters, which is what I would change it too. The part about its speed is not needed because that is clearly shown in a separate part of the template and the part about the eggs is interesting but has no effect on gameplay. I would move that bit of lore into the monster babies section.
- As I said, overall this is a well done monster and I would be happy to help you improve it ;) --Dinomaster337 (talk) 15:40, 19 April 2021 (MDT)
A lot of good observations. I have not designed a boss monster before and so any help is appreciated. Arquebus (talk) 08:56, 26 April 2021 (MDT)
