| The ground underneath your foes becomes soft or muddy.

| Effect: The burst creates a zone of softened earth that lasts until the end of the encounter, or 5 minutes.|
- Squares of stone become clay. This does not effect movement, but clay can be dug through. For example, if cast directly against a stone wall then 10' (2 squares) of wall could be tunneled through. The climb DC of such walls become 5 less for the duration of the spell.
- Squares of dry earth become difficult terrain.
- Squares of wet earth or mud become hindering terrain and difficult terrain: Creatures entering a square of mud become immobilized (save ends), but may make a saving throw to avoid being forced into it against their will.
Staff of Grounding: You may cast the spell as a Close burst 2.
